Itunes Won't Burn Audio CD - Slow!

I have wasted nearly 10 CD-R's trying to get iTunes to burn an audio CD. I've burned cd's on this machine before with now problem. I think the issue started after I downloaded the 8.1 updates.

I can create a playlist and press "burn cd." It seems the CD is burning fine through the first track but after that it goes INSANELY SLOW and just stops in the middle of the 2nd track. I know it's not my driver, as I've been able to burn CD's from Windows Media Player...the problem with that is that MWP doesn't support the mp4 format. This is such a pain in the butt!

I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes about 5 times with no solution. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I thought I'd try that earlier version fix, being one of those people who encountered this problem way back in October and who has tried - with no success - many many many many of the fixes suggested in many a thread here and elsewhere ....anyway I thought I'd just let 32 bit vista users know that it is a no go - the 8.21 (oldapps.com btw for that person who asked where to get it)makes the library (which is in 9.latest)not readable .. guess Windows 7 must have something that addresses this $@#$#$ annoying iTunes based issue..

Ive been troubleshooting this for a while, ive also got the same problem. Im a PC reseller in the UK and have customers complaining that their (brand new)DVDrw drives arn't working. I first noticed this problem about 12 months ago when apple released itunes 8. Burning would be a bit hit and miss and since apple have released updates up to 9.02 i cant burn a cd at all, or be it very slowly. I built a new machine and installed itunes 7.43 with windows 7 and installed one of the affected drives out of another machine. I managed to Burn a disc off at full speed with no problems. Then upgraded to version 8 and the problems appeared, discs wouldnt finalize, or the drive would lock up. Occaisionally the drive would complete the disc without any problems. Then i took it up to 9.02. The drive burns at snails pace or just fails completely.

To isolate that it isnt a problem with the newly released windows 7, Ive wiped the machine and istalled clean versions of XP,VISTA and Win7. All have the same problem and also tested different branded drives with no better result.(with and without their 3rd party burning software installed)

To me, and im not a programmer!, something has gone seriousley wrong when apple were creating version 8 as for me thats when the problems started. With following updates being released and theres been a few, this issue has been compounded.

So for me, ive reverted back to Itunes 7.43, ive issued a recall and am in the process of rolling back my clients systems to the same, and my new DVDRW drive performs perfectly. This is temporary work around untill a fix is issued. But I would say its a simple glitch somewhere with itunes and not your system.

Apple are more than likely aware of this problem and I am sure are in the process of addressing it.

Hope This helps

Good luck.

Add me to the list of aggravated and discouraged iTunes users.

I've been faithfully using iTunes for years, upgrading to every new version. I recently bought a high-powered Dell XPS i7 with 9GB of RAM and 1.5TB of storage running Windows 7 64bit. I'm using iTunes 9.0.3.15. I was able to burn a few short audio CDs and a few complete MP3CDs, but now i can't burn an audio CD reliably. iTunes won't eject the CD after burning, and when i try to do it in Windows Explorer it says "an error occurred while ejecting the CD/DVD"

Dell support updated my BIOS but the problem continues.

How totally irritating! what is more fundamental about a music program than burning a CD?

HELP PLEASE!!

Also having the same issue...had no idea that it was such an ongoing issue as I don't frequently burn CDs, but I'm experiencing exactly what you all are describing. We have Windows XP home, and a brand new burner, and the latest iTunes, but when I try to burn everything slows to a crawl, totally crashes, and then locks up the drive. Really, Apple, if you don't have a fix, at least let your loyal customers know you're working on it before we all sell our iPods and go buy a Zune. This is ridiculous...we paid for the music (in my case, I just want to back up a CD that got damaged), we should have access to it!

i've been experimenting and i may have found a workaround for this. Try this:

1. burn an MP3CD (i just put one song on, use a re-writable disk, fast burn speed)
2. Eject the CD
3. burn the audio CD (i have to use a painfully slow 1x speed)

Repeat for every CD

for some reason, it appears that if i burn an MP3CD and eject the CD, i can burn one audio CD and eject it.

try it and tell me if it helps you.

Hi Im finding this helpful before I complain to apple.

I keep getting unknown error code 2131 and the disc just ejects. I know its not my drive as I can burn using Roxio and the discs are good branded ones that I have NEVER had a problem with again using Roxio

.......so it all points to some bug and I have read that others have had this error code...so frustrating as its a basic and fundamental part of any music software package.

Whats going on? Has anybody else had this error code? I used to just click burn but havent burnt a disc for about a year and now having problems!! itune bug or what is happening?????

Dear Peter...you can't convert Apple's protected MP4 to MP3 and go to WMP. I've tried that. ITUNES won't let you. To the rest of you.. THERE IS NO SOLUTION! The problem would seem to be with ITUNES, not your Vista computer. Don't waste your time reloading ITUNES or your drivers, your registry, etc. That's all been done by thousands of users, and it isn't helping.

Apple hasn't acknowleged the problem that I have seen. This seems to be the number one problem based on the number of complaints. I've had this problem for over a year, and there is no indication from Apple that they are working on it, or care about it. It would seem their focus is on the IPHONE right now. They don't show that they care about ITUNE users at the moment. That's my opinion. Don't waste your time chasing this folks.

why are you commenting on converting MP4s to MP3s? that's a separate issue (which can easily be addressed by creating an AUDIO CD from your MP4s and then immediately importing it to MP3s.)

the only reason that could be related to this thread is that to convert to MP3s you have to create an audio CD, which IS the fundamental issue of this thread.
