Wrong Tape Format

Hello - a project was filmed by a shooter, and I was given the Quicktime files to edit in FCP. I put together an edited project, then tried exporting it to my Panasonic camera, and it starts and stops, then I get a msg. on my camera that says 'Wrong Tape Format'. What is this, and how can I get this project exported? Thanks very much...

DVCAM is a tape recording format that is internal to the VTR/camera. It is not a codec. It is DV25 simply read from or written to a faster moving tape. FCP doesn't have a setting for it so I don't see how it would give a flying fig ...

fwiw - DVCAM was a Sony thing. Panasonics may be able to play it but can't record it. Canons do not record or play it. it.

Is the camera set to record LP or do you have a DVCAM recorded tape in the panasonic?

Ah, ok, so under Item Properties, it's 29.97 fps video rate; 720 x 480 Frame size; 48. KHz aud rate.

Then, under the COMMAND-Zero function, it says 720 x 480 frame size; NTSC DV (3:2) is the aspect ratio, and audio settings it's 48 kHz rate; 16-bit depth.

So, what knowledge can I gain from this that would be helpful? Thanks! I learned something new here!

Well...here might be a thought. There is a difference between DVCAM and MiniDV. DVCAM plays back slighly faster than MiniDV, to ensure fewer dropouts. What will be 60 min on a DV tape with MiniDV is 40 min with DVCAM. And if you have DVCAM footage, it will NOT play out to a MiniDV camera. I had this issue when I shot DVCAM on my GL1 and then tried to play it out to a smaller DV camera when my GL1 was out of the country. Didn't work. I got the same message.

So I think you have DVCAM and not MiniDV, and cannot play that out to that camera. Issue is that they are the same data rate....sorta. THey are slightly different. And to this day I haven't figured out how to output DVCAM to miniDV. That is why I bought my DSR-11. Well, ONE reason.
