Cannot install Adobe Air

I was wondering if anyone else was having a similar problem to mine. On my iMac I cannot install Adobe Air. I mount the .dmg and double click on the Adobe Air Installer and the only thing that it does is put an icon of the installer in the doc and nothing else. Can anyone help with this?

That sounds like some solid advice, I'll try running those Terminal commands and let you know. It has to have something to do with my user accounts. It works on any other user account on either of my Macs, but not on both of mine. I figure it's permissions, or something I have running on my account that isn't on the others that I can't think of.

Any other ideas? This is really weird. I am using the "Secrets" pref pane. I wonder if I set anything in there that could be blocking the Adobe Air runtime from connecting to the Internet from my account. Is anyone familiar with this pref pane, it was recommended by MacWorld and is pretty cool. I wouldl like to see if I can revert any system changes I have made with it back to default and see if there is any difference. Should I delete my user account and create another one? I could test to see if the Air runtime works as I customize it and possibly find out what is causing the problem that way. I have run out of ideas, what do you think?

Yes, my wife's account is an admin user and I got it to install using her account, on both machines. It just doesn't work on mine and that is why I have thought of deleting and making a new account for myself and checking as I go along customizing it. I have said all of this in my last couple of posts. I just would rather figure out what is happening on my account that won't let the Air runtime and TweetDeck to pull info from the net further than my Twitter account signing on. I can't be the only person that this has ever happened to, but I can't find support from TweetDeck and they don't respond to my tweets directed to them. I guess some more Google and Bing searches may be in order. I'll bet it's something simple.

I knew that I couldn't possibly be the only person with this problem! What is strange is that it works fine on other accounts that I have setup on my iMac as well as my MacBook. I use identical short names and usernames on both computers, and it does the same thing on both my accounts on both Macs. If no one else has a fix for this, possibly a bunch of us can start to Google and Bing for answers. If we all start digging we'll probably find something. May both of us having this problem should share info about our setup and apps installed to find a common denominator.

I'd also like to contact Adobe about this problem to get a fix (and eventually, to properly fix this bug). I've tried yesterday but couldn't... Any support mail address for air or something?
I even have screenshots of what's happening during installation (it ends up showing an empty screen and... thats it).

Thanks!

you look at my post above you can read my complete conversation with Adobe vi email. They helped until they thought it was a Tweetdeck issue instead of an Air runtime issue and that my user accounts were causing some kind of conflict. Instead of helping me find the culprit app or setting they basically said they couldn't help and to go pound sand. Have you been able to find a solution yet?

Ok, after entering search terms in many different ways all I kept finding were people with the same problem and no one with a fix for it. I kept trying because I think it is ridiculous to have to create a new user account just to narrow down the conflict. I finally found a thread on the Adobe support forums that linked to a fix that worked for me. The reason that I had the problem on both of my computers, but only with my user account, is due to MobileMe syncing my settings. I tried the fix on my iMac and didn't have to do it on my MacBook because MobileMe took care of it for me. I have always expected more from Adobe than this, but the conflict seems to have nothing to do with Adobe Air runtime and the fix is just as stupid. Adobe really needs to get on it and patch this problem. Here is the link to the guy who posted the fix that worked for him and me on his blog. You'll see why I am amazed at how stupid and unrelated this problem, with it's accompanying cause and fix, are so outrageously stupid. I hope it works for the rest of you, also.
