Cannot install Adobe Air

I was wondering if anyone else was having a similar problem to mine. On my iMac I cannot install Adobe Air. I mount the .dmg and double click on the Adobe Air Installer and the only thing that it does is put an icon of the installer in the doc and nothing else. Can anyone help with this?

HI,

It's possible the code for the installer was corrupt. Go here ~Library/Receipts. If you see a .pkg for Adobe Air delete it. Also delete the .dmg file you originally downloaded.

Repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Now try downloading and installing that file.

I just downloaded the Adobe Air file without any problems. Go figure. When you download this file do you see the white Adobe Air icon on your Desktop?

Wow, I assumed that you didn't think that I'm that big of a noob! Of course I double clicked on the mounted image and then launched the installer. It appears to be installing but when it gets to the last window where I expect to see it say finish or close it is just an empty window with the Adobe Air name in the title bar. I assumed that it may have been installed anyway so I quit the launched and tried to install Tweedeck via Air. The Air Application installer icon shows up in the dock with the orb underneath it showing it is running and it does nothing else after that.

Actually no I didn't but you would be really surprised at how many computer users aren't aware of that... sorry. No offense intended.

Did you check your Applications folder to see if Adobe Air is there? Stranger things have happened.

Did you repair disk permissions like I suggested?

I did everything as you suggested, I thought that it was a very good idea. I also am aware that it installs in the Utilities folder. The problem seems to be that Air does not install completely. If I launch the Adobe Air Uninstaller it does the same thing--it shows the icon in the dock with the blue orb underneath indicating that it is active, but there never pops up any dialog box or anything at all. I can't seem to find an answer on the Adobe's site, either. I'll have to see if they have a forum I can join or something. All the support section gives you is a way to manually uninstall the program, which I have done with no success. I even did a Spotlight search for all things Adobe to make sure that everything associated with Air was removed and nothing more helped. I have friends using Air and Tweetdeck as well as other Air installed apps just fine on Mac platforms. It does the same thing on my Macbook. I'm thinking that I may have something installed that is not letting it finish, maybe a special pref pane or tweaking type app. Anyone else have any suggestions. I can't be the only one that has had this happen.

Everything has been done from admin accounts. Here is the text from my conversations with Adobe, they have yet to respond to the latest info I posted:

In the hours since I typed my last update I tried to install Air from another admin account on both the Macbook and the iMac. It wo
rked perfectly, and subsequently, TweetDeck installed correctly also. However, when I return to my account on either computer they
still don't work. It appears, after using TweetDeck via Adobe Air, that the applications are launching but cannot pull any informat
ion from the Internet. I have tried disabling my firewall and that did not work. It shouldn't matter as the firewall runs on the o
ther admin account, also. I have not been able to identify what I have running or setup differently on my account than on the other
, but something must be causing the problem. Do you have any applications with known conflicts, or any other advice you can give me
?

Thank you for your detailed response. However, there are flaws in it from the beginning. I cannot remove TweetDeck as I cannot ins
tall it at all if Air is not installed. That is why I am coming to you, so that I can find out how to install Air and then use it t
o install TweetDeck. Aside from that, I have tried the uninstaller that comes with the Air installer but it doesn't work, I assume
because it isn't completely installed either. If you have a stand alone uninstaller that you can point me to I will try that. What
I have done to remove Air is send the Air Application Installer and the Air Uninstaller apps to the Trash and also the Air folder i
n /Library/Frameworks. Then I ran the Disk Permissions repair and tried to install Air again without any success. I have this prob
lem on both my Macbook and iMac. It may have to do with my account as they are synced using MobileMe. I will try it using another
Administrator account that is not synced in any way. Please let me know if you have any further suggestions.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.

If I understand it correctly, you are unable to completely install Adobe
AIR because of a blank confirmation box.

I would like us to try removing Tweetdeck by dragging the application to
the Trash. Then remove AIR again by double-clicking the Adobe AIR
Uninstaller (Adobe AIR Uninstaller.app) in your Applications/Utilities
folder.

Get the installer from here by selecting Macintosh for the operating
system:

Download the latest version of Adobe AIR
http://get.adobe.com/air/otherversions/

If that doesn’t work, remove AIR again using the same utility. Do a
Repair Disk Permission on your hard drive for possible permission issue
using the Disk Utility tool found in Applications/Utilities.

After doing that maintenance option, try installing AIR again. If you
are still experiencing the issue, I recommend that you try installing
AIR on a different administrator account on the same machine to isolate
if the issue is account specific. Please check your Mac Help options for
the instructions creating a new one if you do not have another account
your can test the installation.

I hope this information helps. Please reply to us via the Support Portal

I cannot install Air on Mac OS 10.5.7. I appears to install completely but at the last window where I expect it to say finish, comp
lete, etc, it is simply a blank window with Adobe Air in the title bar. I wanted to install it so that I could use Tweetdeck. This
happens on both my Macbook and iMac. I can successfully install Air and Tweetdeck on my Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 RC1.
I tried the suggestion in your support suggestion section to remove the files manually and then try to install Air once again and it
simply does the same thing--the empty dialog box. It is as if Air stops at the very end and never completely installs. I have clo
sed the installer and tried to run the Tweetdeck installer assuming that possibly Air did finish installing but all that happens is
the Air Application Installer icon shows up in the dock with the blue orb underneath indicating that it is running and does nothing
else after that, even if I have left it running for a couple of hours. I also tried to uninstall Air using the uninstaller that sho
ws up with the Air Application Installer in my utility folder but it does the same thing by launching the uninstaller icon in the do
ck but does nothing more. I have no idea what is causing this. Can you help me to get Air to comppletely install?

I checked the permissions of both packages on my machine. They both use standard unix permission structure. The specs are as follows:
owner:root
group:wheel
chmod 755, 644

If permissions/ownership are incorrect the following commands executed in
Terminal.app will correct them.

terminal ownership commands:
sudo chown -R root:wheel /Applications/Utilities/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer.app

sudo chown -R root:wheel /Applications/Utilities/Adobe\ AIR\ Uninstaller.app

terminal permission commands:
sudo chmod -R =rw,+X /Applications/Utilities/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer.app

sudo chmod -R =rw,+X /Applications/Utilities/Adobe\ AIR\ Uninstaller.app
