I have a pretty new 17" Mac Book Pro with a wireless Mighty Mouse. The mouse is consistently losing the connection with the computer and I have to go to the Bluetooth menu to re-establish the connection. Is this a known issue or does this computer or Mighty Mouse have a defect?
Hello, bring your laptops into the Genius BAR and have them open tickets!
I brought my Mac into the Genius Bar. They wanted me to leave it with them for at least 5 business days so they could send it out for intensive diagnostics - which might wipe out whatever I have on the laptop.
I told them I couldn't part with the laptop for some time but would keep a record of my experiences.
From 6/11-only 4 instances of mouse/keyboard loss of connectivity.
I have switched daily between Safari and Firefox - most of the time no instances of failure; and no instances of failure while using iWork or iLife.
I have been monitoring my problem with the loss of connectivity of the wireless keyboard and mouse.
Since 25-June I have no loss of wireless mouse or keyboard. I alternate days using Safari and Firefox. (Tonight I updated Firefox to latest version.)
Perhaps Apple has solved the problem and snuck it into a recent update of software / hardware?
I hope so.
Don't get your hopes up. The problem totally went away for me with the last Bluetooth update and the mouse worked fine until about three days ago. Now I'm having the same old once or twice a day problem of losing connection. Same fix...turn off Bluetooth with the trackpad and turn it back on. Not sure what I'd do if I was using an iMac...I guess reboot.
With an iMac or other non-trackpad computer I would recommend getting a (used) USB mouse to plugin temporarily to turn off BT and turn it back on again. I do this even though I have a laptop (the trackpad is not easily accessible because I have the computer under a counter and on edge). I had also hoped the updated BT would solve the problem but it hasn't for me. Now the outages occur mainly on waking from sleep.
Add me to the growing list of people with a Mighty Mouse and having problems since upgrading to 10.5.7. I also just upgraded to the new 13" MacBook Pro and am having the same issue. It happens seemingly randomly about 4 - 5 times a day. It is getting to be annoying. I hope 10.5.8 fixes this bluetooth issue. I also ran the Bluetooth update and it didn't seem to have any effect.
Just like to add I'm having the same issue. I thought it was since the latest leopard update too so I'm relieved to see you guys are experiencing the same. Also the firmware update did not help at all. I might lose my connection 5-6 times a day while at work (generally around 8 hrs).
I use a Logitech V470 and two old (white) Apple wireless keyboards (in different locations) and the bluetooth connection of both mous and keyboards drops intermitently. Most times both drop at the same time but sometimes the keyboard stops responding but not the mouse or viceversa.
My solutions:
1. Turning BT on and off sometimes (not very often) solves the problem.
2. If that fails, I reboot, turning BT devices off and turning them back on. That seems to work most times.
3. Occasionally, I have to reconfigure the keyboard. I've never had to reconfigure the mouse.
Lately, the problem is less frequent, so I did not install the latest BT firmware update, just in case it made things worse.
I'm just adding a 'me too'. Brand new MacBook Pro 17", wireless keyboard and mighty mouse keep losing their connection. Wake on Bluetooth device never seems to work. Keyboard can be reconnected consistently, but the mouse pairing often fails and I've fallen back to a USB device.
This does not make much sense but I was losing both my keyboard and mouse several times, every day until the Safari 4.0.2 update. I have been running with the lid closed (24" LED Display) and it has been stable.
Bizarre...but I finallly got fed up with Safari's slowness and went to Firefox. Haven't launched Safari now for several days, and haven't had a single BT Mouse disconnect either.
Could this all be somehow related to Safari, of all things?
I can also confirm the Bluetooth Might Mouse bug. I believe it to be something in either the mouse or the OSX software, as I have upgraded to a MacBook Pro recently from a Powermac G5. The mighty mouse would disconnect with the same symptoms you've all described on both machines; and on older versions of OSX Leopard.
I have a MBP and mighty mouse, too. I am totally up to date, including the bluetooth update. MM still disconnects regularly, for no reason. very annoying. This happens several times a day. The fastest way to fix it is to go to the BT icon on top, open BT preferences, which shows the mouse is connected. Then it suddenly works again. It is pretty annoying though. Why does the BT keep dropping the mm? I thought this was supposed to be fixed.
Although it is still a very annoying problem, to just use your trackpad to open the prefs from the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar is the fastest and easiest workaround yet.
Thanks for the great tip. I wish I could give you a star but that is back about 15 posts or so.
Thanks again!
