can you get to the sites ip? For Cracked.com the ip is 8.5.0.232

Nope, going directly to the IP does not work either...

Then the site is being blocked somewhere between you and them.

Are you sure you have no filtering software of any type installed?

Are you using a proxy server of any type?

No, I have not installed anything of the sort or played with any settings over the past few days, as far as I'm aware.

Even if I had, what are the chances that the 3 or 4 of us who reported the problem in this thread would have blocked the exact same sites? It can't be that, unless it's a virus, or adware, or something.

Do you have PeerGuardian running? If so, disable it and you should be able to access it.

I've had PG2 for months and it's never done this until the past couple of days. I mean, I didn't even have the app open and it was still blocking the sites... I had to actually uninstall it and reboot for it to stop.

I have had this problem now for a few weeks now and just discovered the problem today. There were several popular websites I couldn't connect to on my computer but I could connect fine to on another. I'm not sure if this will solve your issue, but if you have installed PeerGaurdian, then you will need to uninstall this program as it blocks certain IP addresses. As soon as I uninstalled it, I was able to connect to these websites.

I am having the exact same problem as others on this thread. Certain websites that were working perfectly fine a few days ago are now not work. Examples are the bank of america site, apple.com (but, curiously, not this site), the firefox site, and other completely random sites. I can go to gmail, facebook, and others just fine.

I have tried all the common things mentioned here and elsewhere (clearing cache, creating a new account, etc.), and the only thing that has worked is using a proxy site, but I don't want to do that forever, especially for things like online banking.

Others have fixed this problem by uninstalling something called peerguardian, but I do not have that on my computer, so that is not the problem. Someone please help!

Have you perhaps installed some other kind of parental control/blocking software that you've forgotten about?

I've never installed parental controls or other blocking software, unless it came as part of Firefox or Safari, which I doubt because I have the identical problem with both browsers, and I never use or update Safari.

Everything worked fine last week, and now suddenly random websites time out every single time I try to load them.

Are you really running 10.4.11 as listed in your signature?

Since these are the Leopard forums, you might want to try asking your question over in the Tiger forums as there might be something 10.4.11-specific that we're missing here.

I had this same problem and then deleted peerguardian with app delete program and not it works fine again. PG wasnt even opened or running? I would make sure to use app delete program to make sure you remove all the associated files since their was alot.
