I paired with an LG Decoy headset just fine, no problems. Next/Previous doesn't work, haven't tried the mic yet, but I'm assuming it won't work.

My battery life has been reduced drastically using Bluetooth. I only plan on using it to listen to podcasts on the drive home, and I'd stick with wired headphones for my main listening experience.

I bought the 3.0 update for my iPod 2G. Was the bluetooth AD2P function even tested??? I want my money back. I have tried 3 different AD2P headsets: Sony, Kyocera, and Soyo, all three of these headsets work fine with my laptop and WinMo cell phone.

They all pair with the Ipod, but the ipod only holds the connection for 20-30 seconds. Then the connection is dropped.

Is there any hope of a 3.01 upgrade soon that will address this problem?

I have a iTouch 2G, Motorola HD-s9, and a Blackberry (BB) 8330m using Bluetooth on all three. I am able to pair & use the HD-s9 and BB without issue. On occasion, if everything is just right I can actually pair the BB and s9 with a AVRC (audio visual remote control) to the iTouch, but the volume is so low it is hardly worth the time, as well as there is no control over the volume, track adv / prev, etc.

The second issue with the iTouch 2G Bluetooth is the attempt to use the remote control of the iTouch 2G with my Windows Vista machine, which appears for a moment to work, but then begins to ask for a Bluetooth driver for the iPod Touch and no matter what I do to find it, there is no success. I have searched the Apple site for any such driver and have called Apple support, but they have no idea. What have I purchased here? This seems to be a beginners attempt at Bluetooth, I expected more from Apple to be perfectly frank. They get a rating of 2 out of 5 in my book.

i didn't go anything special.. it just worked.. clicking the buttons on the left side are the volume buttons...

i did lose play/pause functionality and an iPod reboot made it work again.. maybe it will get your volume working.. press and hold the "hold" button on the top of the iPod for a few seconds and swipe right as instructed to power off... then the button on the face of the iPod to power it up.

I am in the same boat as most of the rest.
I have a Jabra BT320S Headset, which Pairs with everything else, PC, Multiple phones, Palm Tx, using A2DP, Hands free and Headset profiles.

My Ipod Touch 2G (now with $10 ver3.0) does connect and pair with that device, but no audio, just Pause and Play, According to the apple support site the touch supports A2DP, AVRCP (limited), and PAN. I am not impressed with this poor launch of a substandard bluetooth (I hope we don't have to pay $10 for each bluetooth profile as there are about 30 of them). It reminds me of DEC corp. where proprietary was the name of the game. Now?

However, I find a lot of things on this IPOD that I am enjoying.

I think it's hilarious so many people actually think that Apple somehow "forgot" to add the Bluetooth protocols for headsets in the iPod touch. These protocols have been available since day one for the iPhone, and if they wanted to allow you access to this convenience, they would have simply unaltered this aspect of the OS3 operating system in the iPod touch version. Apple is obviously crippling your hardware for monitary gains in the same way they disallowed the use of Skype on a 3G network. What surprises me is that their Apple Store staff members didn't even know the itouch supports bluetooth in its current form, much less that it was crippled. So much for those "genius" advertisements on TV!

please explain to us all how Apple makes money from half implementing AVRCP... i can see it.. are you saying that it will be in another $10 update or something?

also, apple has nothing at all to gain by disallowing Skype on 3G networks... remember Apple is not a carrier and no longer gets a cut of services... but AT&T sure does have an interest in stopping Skype on 3G... and it's almost assuredly Apple's contract with AT&T that leaves decisions like this to AT&T.. i know if i was a CEO of a carrier i'd do everything in my power to not allow this too... if you ran AT&T do you think you'd disallow it if you could?

i think it's hilarious that people ascribe all this things to Apple when apple has nothing to gain from them one way or another...

Clearly all of this is speculation, but we have to assume that Apple does have something to gain from crippling the iPod Touch's bluetooth capabilities. Otherwise, they wouldn't have intentionally done so. My theory is that Apple wants to distinguish the iPhone from the iPod Touch. They want us to see the iPod Touch as primarily a music player, and not a VoIP enabled, cell phone replacing computer in your pocket. Why imprison yourself in an expensive two year contract with AT&T when you can just use a program like Skype on an iTouch with the same software capabilities, especially if you're on a college campus with a far reaching wifi cloud?

Also, Apple does have a monetary incentive to prevent you from using Skype on their business partner's 3G network. Apple has a lucrative contract with said carrier, and business is very good for them right now. As for your suggestion that disallowing VoiP on a 3G network was contractually prohibited by AT&T from the very beginning... well, it's possible, but dubious. Apple disallows this possibility on a global scale to protect it's business partners. If we assume that you're right, then that would mean that every cell phone carrier on the Earth that partnered with Apple (the iPhone is now in 43 countries) had the foresight to contractually restrict this specific service while negotiating a partnership with Apple. I think that's unlikely, but possible.

I've got to rescind a bit of that. I just read on CNET that Apple did opt out of the revenue sharing deal with AT&T (making its partnership with the company not so lucrative after all), but they did this long after banning the use of VoIP services on a 3G network. I think this is a sign that Apple may be distancing itself with AT&T, but that's way off topic. Back on-topic, I still feel that this whole no Skype on a 3G network bit was all Apple's doing, especially since it was done on a global scale. I also feel that you aren't going to convince a lot of people that Apple has nothing to gain or lose from purposefully crippling the iPod Touch's bluetooth protocols. Companies don't just do that arbitrarily, and there's NO WAY you're blaming that one on AT&T.

That is REALLY annoying. i also had a palm tx that i used to use for sms/texting through bluetooth to my phone (nokia and sony ericsson), and it worked GREAT! i went to the ipod touch and had hopes taht this bluetooth upgrade (os3) would allow this!

APPLE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!! HOW ABOUT YOU LISTEN TO WHAT WE WANT?????!!!!!
Seriously.

Very dissapointing. Paid $10 for a not working bluetooth.
Cannot connect to anything, due to the lack of Apple adding more bluetooth profiles to the Ipod. Can also not connect to the computer to play music. Cannot use headset, cannot use microphone, cannot use anything. I'm already dissatisfied because I had to pay for something I already bought, but now it doesn't work even not. Tipical Apple.
