iPhone 3.0 Apps are wrong icons and some are blank

I recently updated my phone to 3.0 and now some of my apps icons/buttons have turned white and some are the graphic thats supposed to be on others. I don't have any idea what would have caused this or how to fix it. I've tried removing them and then placing them back. Then I tried doing it 1 by 1. I've authorized and deauthorized. I've restarted the iPhone and my comp. I am all out of ideas on how to get this problem resolved. Please assist.

I have a new 3GS having upgraded from the 3G the day the new ones came out in June. I too am having this problem but up until about 3 days ago it worked flawless. I am not sure of the problem source. However, I am wondering if its an Ap specific thing that triggers the whole start of this mess so I'll throw out my own experience on the topic. It is not intended to "bash" any specific ap but merely show what I had done, what aps I had loaded, and my results.

About 3 days ago I bought and loaded Twitterific. It had gotten very good reviews (4.5 stars) and I didn't read anywhere in the 15 or so that I read where there were any problems. After loading the application worked fine. However, it was right after this that my phone started getting weird. The next day I went to look at some video that I had shot. It wouldn't play right. Sound was there but the video wouldn't actually play with the sound. At the end it would freeze the phone and nothing would unlock it accept a reboot. I did this for the rest of the day and I couldn't figure out what was going on. I booted and rebooted. Trouble shooting in my mind I thought backwards and decided that the only thing that had changed was adding Twitterific the day before. Up until that point everything worked right and other than the video still seemed to be working. Since it was the only thing I could think of I decided to delete it from the phone(not in iTunes) just to see. Considering I had paid $4.99 for the PRO version I wasn't happy at the prospect of not getting to use it. Without rebooting the video immediately started playing right and it seemed like everything was okay. I downloaded the application a second time figuring it had just been a bug or small glitch hoping it was corrected. After downloading I rebooted the phone before using anything. As soon as it was done, I opened and used Twitterific and all seemed fine. After I closed it, I went back to the video to check it. VIDEO WAS NON-FUNCTIONING AGAIN. Same thing, sound but no video. So I deleted the application again, video started working again??? I have left it off my phone and can't say that I noticed any other issues.

After scrolling through my phone Aps later in the day I noticed the first Avatar that appeared to be switched on a random program I hadn't used in a few days. I was actually a little shocked since I never saw anything like this on my old 3G. I deleted that application and reloaded it. I rebooted and the next thing I know there is another switched AVATAR on a different progam, only this one WASN'T EVEN AN AP I CURRENTLY HAVE ON MY PHONE. It was an old ap that I had deleted a week earlier from the phone???

So, for me it was only after loading/deleting the Twitterific application that the Avatar problem showed up for me. Since then, everything has been a little screwy and the phone doesn't quite seem the same. Again, I want to be clear that I cannot say it was specifically THIS application that caused anything. However, it is the only thing I have to point at considering all of the information I have provided. It is also the only time I have had an application that seemed to affect another function on the phone (video). Of course it could be something else, but if it is, I obviously don't know. Is there anyone else that can trace it to a possible source like that?

Mark sf got it right. Below is his post. Non-destructive for the most part I removed an offending app... Just one and then reinstalled from the app store on my 3GS. Paused it and powered off. Turned it back on and low an behold all is right in the world again. Good job mark sf. I would think it might work even of the app is a non-offender as well. Has anyone tried that so you could delete an app that doesn't have saved settings that are important? Also, mine happened now twice only after hard restarts after the camera app froze. I have noticed that it is only the newest apps installed maybe since the last restart. Also it seems one of the apps that freezes most often for me is the camera when I leave it open and hit the hold button on top.

mark sf's solution is indeed a good one - it worked for me.

4 of my apps icons lost their images after one of my apps crashed (Lemonade Tycoon) and sent my iphone 3GS into reboot. I also noticed that the incorrect icons were "dimmer" than the rest - which indicates iphone knows that the image was incorrect... hmmmm ...

My first attempt was to uninstall the incorrect icon apps and sync with PC to reinstall them. That took care of 3 out of 4 apps problems, but the last one wouldn't change - untill I did the mark sf solution. Thanks mark sf.

mark sf ....... For Prez!!!

Now that I performed mark's solution, I suspect the resolution is even easier. I can't try it now though because I no longer have any problems. But I bet that you need not delete an offending app. Just go download any app and pause it during download. Power off. Power on.

I'm pretty sure that will work -- I'll try it if I get corruption again.

A big thanks to mark for sharing his solution!!!

Marksf IS a genuis as others have said. His fix worked. I have an iPhone 3Gs that is about a week old. I got to my 5 page of apps, The device crashed this morning and I did a hard reset. This afternoon icons are gray or mismatched.

Marksf's fix:

"Choose an app with an incorrect icon, ideally a free one, and delete it with the x in the corner. Then download the app again from the app store, but before it finishes downloading, turn the iphone off using the top button (not hard reset). Turn your iphone on as usual, and you should have all your icons back to normal, and your deleted app re-installed, again with the correct icon. Only takes two minutes so its worth a try, worked fine for a few hours now."

I tried this with the app PopOff and it worked.
