Strange WiFi problem on iPhone 3G after 3.0 update

Just thought I'd see if anyone else is having the same strange problem with the WiFi on their iPhone after the 3.0 update.

Essentially, WiFi works fine after the phone has been freshly booted (i.e. right after a restart) - however, once it has put itself into standby mode it will no longer download data over a WiFi connection after the phone is turned on again. It remains able to find the WiFi network, but simply refuses to download data over it.

Have tried restarting my phone and changing the WiFi security from WPA to WEP, but to no avail...

Just a quick update on my wifi problems. I recently (yesterday) updated the firmware on my belkin G+MIMO wireless modem/router and up to now, fingers crossed, the phone is behaving itself with good range and stability as pre OS 3. I still think Apple have cocked up somewhere!

tried 3.1 BETA 1
no wifi (no signal at all)
BETA 2 is out today

I tried beta 2 of 3.1 this morning and Messaging and Mail are completely broken now. I haven't had a chance to see if WiFi is improved. Several other developers have similar symptoms - don't necessarily rush to install Beta 2!

With the 3.0 bugware my wifi sort of 'bails out' on a random basis when at home with the wireless router across the room. Never did this prior to the 3.0 software update. Now I notice its on 3G after I execute Safari or email, then kicks in wifi after a while.
Phone is 3g.

I applied the recommended fix suggested (resetting the network in General); it didn't work.
It also didn't work for 3 other iPhones at my disposal, so I sincerely doubt that the iPhones are broken. I mean, everything worked before the update. 😟

Not only does my wifi ** now, my phone isn't working properly either!
Yesterday, people told me they had called but the phone didn't ring and I never got a couple of text messages. When I took out my sim card and put it into an older phone, I got those text messages that I never recieved on my iPhone.

So 3.0 is responsible for this wifi mess apparently, but do any of you have this phone issue as well? Or is it just me?

I tried iTunes 8.2.1 to see if that helped, although I knew it wouldn't
And unfortunately, I was right: iTunes 8.2.1 doesn't solve the problem

Fresh router lasted four days before starting to exhibit the same behaviour. Can't even connect now.

Any devs out there know if this is rectified in the upcoming update?

hi all

i just thought i'd chime in to say that the 'official' 3.0 update has killed my wifi too. really not impressed. i'd kinda deserve it if i'd been trying to put dodgy software on, but the fact that i updated thtough iTunes in good faith, and to now have a duff phone as a result is really not on. i too am also experiencing not properly receiving calls and some messages, until much much later. my phone won't ring at times, and then i'll get a message saying missed call or an answering machine message etc when i have a full signal...all problems from 3.0 update. 'could' be a coinsidence, but i don't believe so.

not impressed. really wish apple would acknowledge it as i have the original iPhone and after having visited the 'genius' bar they turned 'round and said there is nothing they can do, nothing at all. being out of warranty n all that, although i'd argue after a year and half or whatever its been; for a software update they released has bricked my phone isn't exactly a 'reasonable amount of time'. i did have the 'option' of paying for a repair at 130-140 quid or something?!? (where i'd assume they'd just farm me off with a refurb 'off the shelf' not exactly the solution i was looking for after installing a final release software update, again, in good faith.

hhhmmm. not good.
help apple. please.

My 3G phone has dropped WiFi completely now...off to the Genius bar at the weekend. This post 3.0 problem seems to be growing very fast... note a couple of other threads on the subject..

This also includes other people getting bounced from replacements due to the "phone has been wet" indicator hidden within the docking port.

Just to add more fuel to this ever growing thread, I too have had the WIFI dropping out, and only since doing an update to 3.0! But this is also my second iPhone since April, after the first one had to be sent away due to not being able to make or receive calls, so they replaced it, but now this problems appeared, I've a good mind to go back to my reseller and demand a refund for poor service!

Anyone up for a mass refund from Apple?

Well, I found that resetting the network settings was only a temporary fix - also my iPhone was also becoming increasingly unreliable at connecting to O2's 3G network.

I finally decided enough was enough and made a Genius Bar appointment; my iPhone was swapped out with a new model. Although this new phone came pre-installed with OS3.0, it's been totally reliable thus far.

I still wonder if there was some minor differences in chip architecture between production runs - and whether these differences weren't entirely accounted for in the latest firmware.

On the issue of checking for water damage, the guy at the Genius Bar shone a light down by the dock port and in the headphone port - so I suppose that you might want to think twice before sticking your iPhone in the freezer just in case the resulting water condensation voids your warranty.

Hope everyone manages to get their iPhones sorted!
