MMS settings for uk 3 network, plus no mms icons within messages.

Hi there, i finally get this version 3 for my factory unlocked iphone, does anybody know why i havent any mms icons within my messages, no options for mms whatsoever, im using 3 network, in the uk.

Please advise

I have very little experience of MMS as I regard it as the most expensive bit of bandwidth going and was quite happy to send any photos taken by email. However I have 25 MMS a month on my tariff and so have been sending a few from the iPhone.

It seems to be that you absolutely have to be on 3G in order for it to work.

And you have made sure the APN is "three.co.uk" and NOT "mms.three.co.uk"?

yes, I have rechecked all the fields. Interesting though that my old motorola will send the mms but the iphone will not. Tomorrow I will test it in a 3g area and see if it works there. I don't expect to use it much it just annoys me when I can't get things to work as they should.

Success, I tried in good 3g reception area, no change, so back at home I reset all the network fields, rebooted, then re entered all the data, rebooted, and this time it works, and this is in a non-3g location. I can only assume that something was stuck in one of the fields, I certainly overtyped several times, but clearing them has done the trick.

I haven't really thought of tethering, I use my laptop mostly at home and so have a broadband connection, the other place I use it, there's no phone signal so that won't work! Still might be worth trying, do I need yet more parameters filled in??

Factory unlocked iPhone!? I didn't know there was such a thing? I thought O2 were the only network signed up to the iPhone?

Yes, in various countries around the world such as Belgium and Italy. I got mine there, in Sicily. It means among other things that I can avoid expensive roaming charges, particularly for data.

No, you need a special tethering file but unless you have a data bundle on your account, there is little point. In addition, you in the UK are losing all the benefits of "3 Like Home" and therefore free roamed data in several countries, in 3 days time.

to be honest, when my 3 contract expires I will probably switch to o2, they have better coverage and the tariffs are now just as cheap, a simplicity sim and unlimited internet is under £20, same as 3. At the moment but who knows how things will change.

Well, I've been tethering for weeks now on 3UK but I decided to give that file a go, anyway. It didn't work, slowed my iPhone to a crawl and I noticed it didn't input the APN.

So, anyone wanting to use their hardware-unlocked iPhone with 3UK (or 3 Ireland) should go instead to jellysms.com/blog where they will find numerous working tethering files.
