Invalid Security Code - frustration !

Hello to you all Apple/Mac lovers 🙂,

I did see that someone had already posted about this earlier, only the topic was marked as solved so I'm making a new one.

Here's a little heads up for anyone who doesn't about this 😉 : when trying to add a credit card to the payment info on my iTunes store account, it says that I have to enter a valid security code - but the code I entered is already fully valid ! However many times I try I can't get it to work. Any clues, ideas, help ? Thanks a lot 🙂 !

i had the same problem... but i think to solve this issue... you need to call ur credit card company and verify the latest purchase you made from the apple store. you will notice a hold amount on your credit card balance (it's the amount of the app you purchased, and it's not yet taken from your card). In my case, i purchased and installed a gps app called NAVIGON, and it hasnt posted on my card yet. after that i got the "INVALID SECURITY CODE" when i try to install updates on any of my apps. i called the bank and verify the amount, and the problem got fixed. hope this helps.

I have had the same problems multiple

Times. I was reading through these posts and I believe I found the solution to this annoying problem! I had been getting so frustrated because everyone had the same answers. There was nothing helpful. Then I came across the suggestion to go into your settings on your phone, log out then log back in. Then once you come across your billing info put in your code again and it should work! It worked for me the first try. Maybe Ty it a couple times if it doesn't work the first time. You know how these things can work sometimes.. I hope this works for everyone! Please let me know if it does!!! Good luck :)

You know what, I'm really out of my mind.... I bought this "unfortunatly-ipad" as a gift to my kid and now I'm overseas and she keep asking me to resolve this... Apple never thought about spending 3 min from their time and post a comment in here... I can see your future Apple.... I'll get rid of this once I'm back home and would recommend anything but not apple products...................

What we are seeing here is a programming error in the App Store program. Looks like there is an error in the entry verification, causing it to not properly verify the security code entered with the card. The big clue to this was trying to enter an American Express card and seeing the software return the error stating that the code wasn't valid because it was only supposed to be 3 digits. American Express security verifications require 4 digits, so the information utilized by the programmers is incorrect. Those that are able to go online in their web browser and update the information, are able to do so because different programming is in place for the website. Personally, I much prefer the previous software downlown site we had before Apple decided on creating the App Store "monstrosity".

Ok so this problem annoyed the **** out of me for so long. Today I went out and bought a itunes GiftCert(GC) at CVS and tried to input it to just try to somehow get passed this frustration. I tried to put it in and it said that my account "had been locked for security reasons". Whenever trying to get into itunes via my PC Mac mini Ipad or iphone this NEVER came up. I only got a message that my billing info was wrong/needed to be updated. It made me reset my password so I did. I went back into Itunes and redeemed the GC and it then deducted .99 cents from a purchase that would not go through when the "Invalid security code" issue arose. Now when I go into the billing information FINALLY there is the mysterious selection of NONE - this was NOT present before I got the GC. So I selected NONE and click done. There is an issue if you access your account from more then one device that made this happen. I am 99% sure of it. I then logged out and logged back into itunes through my PC and added the SAME DEBIT CARD THAT WAS INVALID SECURITY CODE 10000000 times and it saved it. Whewwww! Haha. Anyway I hope this path works for everyone else that is frustrated. Good luck.

I have a government CC, which will not allow soft charges. I am attempting to update the Macs we have in our lab to Lion, yet cannot log into my government Apple ID, because the system fails on registering my iTunes account. I have however registered it and authorized my security code in the online iTunes store. Why is there a disconnect between the online store, and the iTunes version? Especially after 3+ years of knowing of this issue.

None of the listed approaches above will work in my scenario. As a Gov employee, I cannot purchase an iTunes card as a work around, nor am I allowed to use my personal CC's on my Gov account.

I honestly don't know why apple doesn't get off their butts and fix this problem.if so many people are experiencing the same thing, then obviously it's a huge problem.i can't even use a gift card I got for my birthday to buy anything because my account needs the security code to encredit card I have on account.ive tried multiple times to enter it but it doesn't work.

Feb 19, 2012 10:40 AM in response to Kristin73

@Kristin73 - The problem we are discussing here is actually due to a faulty App Store application that has some programming errors within it. It has to do with the part of the program that verifies the text that you entered into a certain box. They do this to ensure that you enter the proper amount of numbers, like 3 digits for most credit card validation numbers, and 4 digits for American express. The softwares that check to make sure these were entered correctly is using the wrong figures to validate what was typed in. Not having enough money in the account would return a different error than what most of us are seeing. Apple doesn't seem to think they have a responsibility to ensure programs such as the App Store are properly tested prior to release - which only hurts the customers.

Feb 19, 2012 12:55 PM in response to SuperSelrak

@Eric - that really *** because you will never get out of that bug loop if you can't use a GC.

@cheif - the issue is a bug that does not return that you have a negative balance or if your account is security locked.

If either of these conditions exist apple code will return invalid security code as the error. Calling support will not help as when I did they could not tell my account had been security locked or was in a negative balance. The only way to fix this is to apply a GC to your account. Once you do you can select none for billing and re-enter that same card again and it will accept it.

So my original fix worked so I could reinstall Netflix. It would t let me update anything else. I knew my card info was correct but checked me apps and noticed my so had installed a purchased app and my card was temporarily over limit awaiting payment. As soon as I pushed my payment through same day it fixed my account. So the message the system gives is incorrect. So maybe apple needs to change the rejection messages.
