Unable to sync photos to iPhone

I have an iPhone 3G. I updated it to 3.0 yesterday. After the update, I removed my photos from my iPhone. I then tried to sync them back. After syncing would finish the capacity bar would show a really small size for the photos section, like 400 kb, when I was trying to sync a folder with many pictures and a much greater size. After syncing, the photos weren't on the iphone.

I restored the phone to a backup and the problem persisted. I restored the phone to original conditions and the photos syncing worked at first. For some reason now, after I sync my music and apps, I have about 50-70 mb of free space although I get the following message when I try to sync a folder with a few photos: "No photos were copied to the iPhone because there is not enough free space on the phone to hold your photos and albums". I'm trying to sync a folder a 4.5 mb iPod Photo Cache and 7 images ranging in size from 14 kb to 105 kb. What on earth could possibly be causing this? Anyone experiencing the same or a similar problem?

BTW, I'm running windows vista 64-bit, if that makes any difference.

At last, Apple has released a much-needed patch: iPhone OS 3.1.2 is out and it solves the sleep issue—in which the iPhone refused to wake up—brought in by the previous version. There are other fixes too:

• Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
• Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
• Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

alas this DOES not seem to fix the problem either 😟

Thanks for the update, I was unaware they released an interim update... This issue seems more widespread that appears ont he surface. Seems like quite a few folks are complainng about this issue in particular. I tried talking to the support folks at a local Genius Bar, but I did not expect to get much support as they are Apple centric in their support agenda. Sure enough that was the case, however the tech that I spoke to was aware of the issue.

I upgraded without looking at the fixes; hoping that the problem was solved, but 3.1.2 still have the issue. After playing with it (nore out frustration than anything else) I found out (I recall someone did something similar) that if I delete enough space (I temporary disabled syncing my podcasts) I was able to put all the photos back, and afterwards when I re-enabled my podcasts everything was fine, I had all my 90 photos which used only 50MB of the 300MB that I had available and all my podcasts as well. However; during the next sync it deleted all my pictures again.

It seems as a very easy bug to fix to me. 😟

It's a month since the last message on this thread. My iTunes 9.0.2 can't fit 7MB of Photos in 270MB free space. It needs ~300MB for photo syncing to work. So incredibly annoying - with my 8GB iPhone 2G I need all the space I can get.

I posted a thread in the Camera, Photos and Video section before I found this (misplaced) thread (in Phone and Messaging)..

Yup, having this problem too. I tried a couple of these solutions and nothing's worked even though I've managed to isolate that the problem's definitely only applicable to photos. I can fill my iPhone's memory completely with apps and music, but not with photos.

This problem's even crossed from a 1st Gen iPhone 2G to an iPhone 3GS.

I'm digging around to see what's up with this whole thing, but not keeping my hopes up :-S

Has anyone heard of a patch for this yet? I've tried the solutions offered ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503 and deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder), but neither have worked. After restoring my iTouch and starting over, I briefly had my pictures synched. Only when I went to re-add a few applications I was told there was no room (my pictures were removed), despite having over 25x the space required for my 4.3MB of pictures....

I've seen that I'm not the only one having this issue and am really suprised (disappointed) that Apple doesn't have a fix for it yet! I'd consider paying the $26 for a support case if I thought that would resolve my issue, but I can't say I'm convinced it would.

this problem is ridiculous and extremely annoying. i have 50x the amount of space needed to sync like 10 photos into the phone and i keep getting the "not enough space" error message. I have tried unchecking they sync boxes and re-synching, as well as changing from manual to auto sync. I've had the phone for a year and never had this problem before. i downloaded some new wallpapers and want to add them to the phone but they wont go. this used to simply require an itunes sync. what is the problem Apple?
