Download error. Tap to retry

After trying to rent a movie on iTunes directly from my iphone 3G (with 3.0) the movie appears in the downloads area but says 'Download Error. Tap to retry.' The movie will not download even if I'm connected to WiFi. How can I either get the movie to download or cancel the purchase? Have I been charged? At this point I'd like to just make it go away. Please help.

The original post was about downloading movie rentals, so your issue could be unrelated to this, but it seems if you free up plenty of space on your phone movie rentals will complete.

Perhaps there is another issue with this app and you should start your own thread on the topic. I don't know if your app issue will be noticed in this video rental thread.

I SOLVED IT!!!! For me atleast! The movies i bought were ones i bought ON my ipod, not computer. i got this error message for so long and it frustrated the heck outta me. i JUST figured out the problem was that there was not enough memory on my ipod to download this movie. To fix it i took another movie off my ipod via my computer, then downloaded it!! YAY

same problem here. I tried everything suggested here. Tried downloading from my computer, now I have it there and can move it to the iphone, but the other download is still pending, and I bought it twice. Tried the pause trick, but pause never shows up. Tried restarting. Nothing.

The really bad thing is that the size of the entire film is being taken up on the iphone, even though only about 1MB was ever downloaded.

Had same problem. Had to manually delete the partially downloaded file from my iPhone using iPhoneExplorer (freeware):

http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/

* Download, install, and launch this app while your iPhone is connected to computer.
* Go to ~/Media/Downloads
* Delete any *.mp? and *.jpg or *.png files. Leave the manifest file intact.
* Sync iPhone via iTunes.
* Go to iTunes/Downloads on your iPhone and 'tap to download'; now it should work.

I have had this problem twice, trying to download to my ipad. The problem both times was that I did not have enough space on my ipad to accomodate the download. Unfortunately Apple does not prompt you to this being the problem (and only says "download error, tap to retry), this lack of space was definitely the problem as once I removed enough files, the movie downloaded no problem.....It seems to be simply a lack of communication by Apple (they should prompt you to "delete files to make space for download" or something to that effect), instead of a more serious problem with itunes, the device, or wifi.

Hello guys !

Actually, I Have the same problem "Download error. Tap to retry" but I have the solution

1- Backup your iphone,ipod ( use iTunes )
2- You must update your iphone,ipod to (4.2.1) "" If you have already update skip to step (4)
3- Go to iTunes >devices > version ) and check for Update
4- Wait until the update finished
5-Go to iTunes >devices > version ) and click restore
6- Go to iTunes>more>downloads>(and try to download your file again) if you followed the steps correctly you should be able to download again with no problems

Thank you .. If you have any question (bn1a@hotmail.com)

i had this problem and couldn't find an answer anywhere until i went to an apple store and talked to a tech. they said you can not download movies straight to your ipod ( even though ive done it before). I am not sure why your ipod allows you to do it if you can't but that's what they said. i got in touch w/ itunes customer service and they cancelled it and i got my refund and the movies were gone off my ipod so i guess from now on download to computer and then to ipod. seems crazy, i thought that's why i got my ipod but they said it can support holding it but not downloading it.

This is a major bump, but I found a remedy. And pardon me in advance if I'm merely reciting common knowledge -- it's just what helped me solve the issue.

If you can, connect your iPod to your PC > open iTunes > store > check for available downloads. If all is well, it should start downloading on its own. I was pretty bummed to see that the only solution was to spend an hour recovering the iPod initially, so try this before going that route.

Much luck!

Download Errror, Tap to download on iPad.

You don't have to download this, just go to your movies icon on your ipad and delete any previously downloaded movies by tapping and holding on the movie icon, when an x is displayed on the movie icon remove your finger and tap on the x to delete the move. Once I deleted the old movies on my iPad, the movie downloaded with no problem.
