It's not perfect but when I received my N97 I ended up using SymcML services to sync my contacts on OSX with the N97. The N97 naively supports this so you need an OSX SyncML plugin to sync with a provider. I use http://my.funambol.com for over the air sync and they have some links to an OSX plugin, now that I have it running I have over the air sync with OSX & my N97. You can also do calendar syncing but it's a little weak on teh OSX plugin I used, others may have better ical support.

Yes, I am very disappointed with Nokia and lack of bringing out an iSync Plug In for the N97. I'm currently running on v12 firmware, and the new version is due out next month AFAK ( v2.0 or some folk call it v20 )

Hopefully, that might cure the iSync issue and Nokia will then bring out their plug in.

However, there is workable solution with the N97. If you haven't got one yet, get a Google account.

You can then sync the Mac to Google, sync the Address Book, and sync iCal to Google Calendar. So there the two calendars and contacts can sync with each other.

The next stage is then to sync the N97 with Google, this is done via Mail for Exchange. You will need to download MfE onto the N97, and then set up a profile, which allows calendar and contacts to sync with Google, and then these will also reflect back onto the Mac.

Now I have it set up, it's working quite smoothly. THere is then Nokia Multimedia Transfer and this can connect to the mac via Bluetooth for transferring audio / images ( doesn't seem to work with mine via USN connection )

THere is a longer and more detailed set of instructions, will post up the link if needed.

cheers.

Still doesn't work for me..

Just downloaded and installed the latest plugin for N97.

I'm trying to sync but get the following message after a short while (when getting to about 40% in syncing calendars):

måndag den 2 november 2009 21.58.38
[Nokia N97] The connection was interrupted while communicating with the phone.
Synchronization of the device "Nokia N97" failed.

What to do? I've tried to reinstall the plug-in, restarted, but no change..
I'v made sure that my macbook pro is allowed to read/write phone information, and bluetooth is always on, phone visible for everyone...

Nokia N97 and Apple iSync

I bought my Nokia N97 early July, just a few days after the Australia release. I’ve been enjoying this great device since then desspite its bugs. The most notable of which was that unlike my previous Nokia S60 it would not cooperate with iSync. Thankfully the recently released firmware update (V20.0.019) fixes this problem.

After hacking the Nokia 5800 phoneplugin and turning off contact sync in iSync I got older firmware versions (V10, V11 and V12) to sync my calendars. This was the most important thing for me, but still very annoying.

First download Nokia-N97.phoneplugin.zip. Extract to ~/Library/PhonePlugins/ as usual. Now pair your phone with bluetooth and select the option to enable iSync. Open iSync and turn off contacts sync. It should now sync calendars properly. This is where I’d been up to V20.

To get contacts to sync you need to reset the contacts database. Insert a MicroSD card into your phone and do a backup of your contacts from the phone’s “File Mgr” app. Now immediately restore just the contacts, the phone will reboot. Turn on contacts sync in iSync and it should work great =)

Enjoy!
