Can anyone tell me why everybody talks about "N97 software version 2.0" or "firmware V2.0" while the latest version (as posted today, 30 Nov. 2009 on the Nokia site) is called V.12.0.026 (and dated 31 Aug. 2009, which doesn't sound very recent to me...)

Anyway, I have this version running on my N97, I've downloaded the N97 plugin for iSync from Nokia, and indeed: it only works if you uncheck the contacts. Calender works fine now.

Has anyone got it working WITH contacts?

Hello,

a couple of weeks ago, Nokia released the 2.0 version of the N97 firmware. You might want to check with Nokia, e.g. on this page:
http://www.nokia.co.uk/get-support-and-software/product-support/n97/how-to-n97/g et-started-n97/update-software#

The availability has been mentioned on many websites, e.g.:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/nokia-n97-firmware-2-0-now-available/

Kind regards,

The latest version is 20.0.019.

Go here: http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-softwa re-update

and type N97 into the device model box, or click the N97 icon.

Not all countries and operators support the latest version. To find out which software version is available to you, go here:

Thanks Julian,

I fear that you "solved" my problem... I had seen of course that Nokia announced 20.0.019 as the latest version, but I had more or less overlooked the fact that not all countries and operators support the latest version.

So, whether it is "the Netherlands" or "Vodafone" being a bit backward, I don't know, but it seems that 12.0.026 is the best I can get on my N97.

Anyway, I can sync my calender, which is the most crucial (thank God I didn't get this phone 5 months ago, I would have been as frustrated as many of the people I saw in this thread!). I guess I'll have to find a work-around to sync contacts, until Nokia has solved this issue. From the way it looks from the comments here, even V 20.0.19 doesn't solve that still?

I would be very pleased if I could update to v.20 and at least have a stab at using iSync (which used to work perfectly on my old N95). Unfortunately, when I check for software updates I'm told I'm on v10.0.012 and that "No updates are available". I've had this iSync problem since I got the N97 back in June and it really is a pain. It never occurred to me to check whether this function was available - I used to have it on an ancient Motorola PEBL four years ago- so surely the N97should have it.

Same problem here: Updated to v2.0 (20.0.019, had to buy the update from Nokia shop), but still dropping connections for contacts (something like "connection was dropped unexpectedly while in communication"). The Console application logs two lines:

ERROR (.sync.SyncML.Session-Codec): Alerted database was not found on remote device
ERROR (.sync.SyncML.Session): Contacts > Not found

There are some more iSync log entries before these entries(regarding __NSAutoReleaseNoPool), but they might not be immediately related (probably occured when iSync was started).

The plugin seems to create a new group (in German localisation "Unbenutzte Gruppe"), which holds a single contact.

Maybe this helps to help us... 🙂

why on earth did you have to pay for a software update on your phone? they should not be charging you for any update to their software to fix bugs they wrote in in the first place.

i updated mine and have already had some software glitches like the screen going blank and not being able to close some apps. had to reboot the phone.

i hope they get this sorted soon as i have already got rid of my brand new h1 because it would not sync with the mac at all. nokia are normally really good but this time they have seriously let themselves down.

Just a comment that might help other synchronisation victims of Nokia or Vodafone:

I am for now using a very simple, pragmatic work-around. I use my old Nokia E61i,and set iSync for synchronising only contacts on the E61i, and only contacts on my new N97.

Then I use the data transfer option on the N97 (>settings, >Connectivity, >Data Transfer, >Phone switch. I select my E61i, check ONLY contacts, and let the phones do their thing over Bluetooth.

OK, it takes some time, and it's an extra step, but at least I have now a fully synchronised N97. 🙂

Because I have (probably had, in a couple of days) a Vodafone branded phone. Since Vodafone did not yet release V2.0 (in Germany, no idea about other areas), the update was done by Nokia. The rest is use usual long story: bought phone from vodafone not nokia so contract is with vodafone so for nokia its a paid upgrade take it or leave it...

I was under the impression the V2.0 update would fix my problem. It might be Nokias fault that V2.0 is required, but arguing that would take more than 15-30 minutes of time (probably even hours, and some very upset local Nokia service people, who never sold the device), so it was actually less expensive to buy the upgrade. :-/

Anyway, it did not work, and unless some miracle happens I will try to return the phone on base that it does not sync with my Mac.
