Bluetooth Stereo Audio Problem

I excitedly upgraded to iPhone 3.0 hoping I could throw away my cords forever and listen to music through my bluetooth-capable pioneer stereo. Did the update, rushed out to the car, synced up (all good so far) banged on my current fave tune, and cranked it. The song started, I gushed with delight for about 10 seconds then ... a little break in the music, a slight stutter. Huh? It happened again about 5 seconds later, then again, and again, every 5 to 10 seconds. Aaaaargh! Not a fade out, but a micropause. The song starts again where it left off, rather than missing a bit.

It's good enough for podcasts, but NOT GOOD ENOUGH for music. What's going on? Can anyone help me?

No, mine is working fine for both BT Audio and Phone.

I did have a problem when I first wired up the harness to my Chrysler 300M which has an amplifier in the trunk. Sony's instructions were cryptic about this, but I had to connect the red, switched power from my car to both the head unit's corresponding red wire plus the car's powered antenna lead. Apparently, that power is used for to turn the amplifier on. The symptom before doing that was that the audio worked when listening to the tuner, but nothing for the CD player. I'd bet the BT audio would have also been silent too.

"I just installed a head unit like yours. Mex bt2700 and I cannot make calls using bt and my iPhone. No sound comes out if the speakers. They can hear my voice on the other end but I cannot hear them. Are you having this problem?"

No MBones...no problem with syncing the phone and the Pioneer. I can make calls and have been doing so for months even before the 3.0 upgrade. The upgrade has not affected this (thank God!). I can listen to podcasts because a stutter every 15 to 30 seconds is not annoying. But when you have music going, the stutters are really noticable because the a microsecond of silence interrupting the wall of sound!

I dont use bluetooth now to listen to music at all.

I don't have any issues with cutouts on my bluetooth headset S9-HD but I always do in my car. I bought a KDC-X993 a few weeks ago and the music will play fine for a random period of time then cut in and out constantly within a minute or so and then stop for a while only to repeat again.

I thought maybe it had to do with possibly being in range of other bluetooth phones or decks while driving near other cars but how could I keep bluetooth locked into my deck w/o constantly checking for new bluetooth devices (this is something you can toggle for WiFi but it's not something I see for bluetooth).

Whatever it is it's extremely annoying and lends people to think my stereo is screwed up even though it works flawlessly with phone calls. Also they really need to get the AVRCP working, not to mention getting voice control to work through my car mic instead of having to hold the phone and speak into it while driving (defeats the purpose of using bluetooth over wires and paying attention to the road).

I have a similar problem, and it is definitely caused by the 3.0 Bluetooth stack.

Before 3.0 was released, I used my iPhone 3G with the Bluetooth head unit in my car by plugging in a small bluetooth adapter into the bottom of the iPhone. It work (and still works!) perfectly. On upgrading to 3.0, I was looking forward to dispensing with this so I could plug a car charger into the bottom of the iPhone instead. Imagine my disappointment! Well, I guess you don'y have to, as people here seem to be suffering the same thing.

Naturally I've tried plugging my little Bluetooth adapter back into the iPhone, and yes, the audio is then perfect! Looks like a problem with Apple rushing the A2DP Bluetooth stack out before it was ready. Hopefully an update will fix it, but that's a PITA for those of us with JB and unlocked iPhones.

I still have not had any more problems with BT Audio or Phone other than what I reported here from my first day. I have a theory, though: I wonder if this, as well as other times the iPhone 3G experiences slowdowns, is related to the number of "tabs" you have open in Safari. Even though Safari is not open, if I have 5 or 6 pages open in it, it seems like the whole phone acts slow. My theory would be that it's running short on available RAM, maybe a memory fragmentation issue.

I'll experiment with this and see if I can get the BT Audio problem to reappear in a predictable fashion.

The S9 -HD headset is known for being very sensitive to anything getting in between it and the iPhone. It's not just iPhone related though. The same thing happens when I have my headset paired with my Macbook. Also, I have noticed that bluetooth reception is slightly better on the 3GS than the 3G. If you experience stuttering on the sound, just disconnect and then reconnect the headset.

I too have the jittering / stuttering experienced by others here.

I have a iPhone 3G s and I have it paired with a JVC KD-BT1 head unit in my car. I have previously used a Nokia N79 and Nokia N81 with AD2P (stereo bluetooth) with no problems. The iPhone fails terribly.

I hard reset the phone before playing tracks now - that will give me maybe 5 songs before it starts becoming evident (well, too evident, you can hear small skips). Otherwise it is a big disappointment.

So what do I do now Apple? It's obvious to the rest of us that it is your bluetooth stack - how about a comment from you?

You are not addressing apple here.

Yeah, ok - point taken Craig - but there seems to be no comment from Apple anywhere on this. I'm trying to get something, anything, from them.

I've followed their published steps:

*Difficulties with music playback through Bluetooth stereo headphones or car kits*

If you have difficulties with music playback through your Bluetooth stereo headphones or car kit, take the following steps to resume music playback. First, attempt to pause and resume music playback. Then, if the issue persists:

1. Delete the pairing record, and pair again.

:: Yep! Done.

2. Ensure that the firmware or software on the Bluetooth device is up to date.

:: Is a little difficult to swallow (every bluetooth device I have works ok) - but I'll try to get a new firmware for my car unit

3. Ensure that the Bluetooth device is charged or connected to power.

:: sure is!

4. Turn off both the iPhone or iPod touch and the Bluetooth device, then turn both devices on again.
http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?messageID=9861919#

:: Hard reset even!

5. If the issue persists, test Bluetooth with another device or consult the manufacturer's documentation.

:: like I said, other devices work fine....

So, where do I go now?

I understand, I actually have a similar issue with a Kenwood head unit with my 3GS (my 3G works fine). Just saying that you are talking to other users, not apple. I was checking this thread to see if someone had found a solution, please let us know if you hear anything new from apple.

In the mean time, I'm just using the headphone connection to feed the AUX input on my head unit. It's a minor annoyance, hopefully it will go away with the next firmware update.
