Disabling Bonjour Messaging Window Popup

My apologies if this has been posted before.

Does anyone know how to disable the annoying Bonjour messaging window that pops up from time to time?

I think I may have found a bug in iChat, and it didn't appear until after I installed 10.4.1 (I didn't think they updated iChat). Anyhow, when I start iChat from the balloon icon in the upper right corner, I choose Buddy List. Everytime I do this, it tries to open a Bonjour buddy list as well. This of course gives me an error message since I have Bonjour disabled on my firewall. I also have Bonjour automatic login and "use this account" options disabled in iChat preferences.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hello Uncle David,

Sorry you are still having this problem. Having deselected Bonjour in my iChat Accounts preferences, Bonjour's no longer appears. You have me mystified, Sir!

After 10.4.1, I no longer EVER experience the problem. The only thing I have changed recently is deletion of the
b com.apple.iChatAgent.plist file
as part of a test on a different issue. You might try that, but I think it unlikely to be a fix for the Bonjour issue. If it corrects the problem for you, however, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, you might also consider reapplying the 10.4.2 Combo update. This is How I Update My Mac OS X.

I am out of ideas. Anyone else have suggestions for Uncle D .... ?

Sorry about having to revive this post, but I never did get a solution. I'd hoped that reinstalling my software from the OS up would do the trick, but no luck. Even on the brand new G5 I just purchased I'm dealing with this problem.

Unfortunately, the two solutions linked to above are gone. Not that it would help. They didn't solve the problem for me in the past.

PLEASE help me with this problem. It's really quite annoying to have to deal with this pop-up everytime I log into iChat. (after startup or restart.

Hello UD,

Mine now does the Bonjour question pop-up only after I have done OS X Maintenance. Just restarting iChat AV or my Mac does NOT do this for me.

The first time I launch iChat AV after forcing the Chrons (I use MacJanitor and repair permissions afterward) now results in the pop-up. I reset the
b iChat > Preferences... > General
to set the "Keep my status as Away" button, and I am not bothered by the pop-up again until the next time I force the Chrons.

This is the best result I can get.
