camera shutter stuck on iPhone3G

Hello,
I've got the same issue. my 1st gen iphone shutter wont open when I start the camera app. The shutter has the same issue in Facebook app too. I did several resets (power/home button) with no luck.
I'm not sure the issue is related to the 3.o update because I took a few frames on July 11th. The malfunction was first noticed on July 18.

I did a full restore after backing up the iphone. Even in factory settings the shutter didnt open. I restored to the back up and still no help. Also noticed that although all pictures are deleted, camera shows the last pic taken in the little thumbnail on the bottom left. Weird.

Same here. Camera app displays a closed shutter and doesn't respond at all. Any solution yet?

MY SOLUTION!
I was having the exact same problem. Camera shutter would not open at all, ever. I tried a restart, hard reset, retore and restore to new. Nothing worked. I even deleted and reinstalled iTunes from my computer (PC/Windows XP). Nothing. So I just got back from the Genius Bar. And I swear to you all the Genius had to do was restore to new phone on his computer namely a Mac. The camera shutter reopened like magic. As far as he told me that is all that he did. Crazy? Yep. Do I understand it? Nope. SO IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN TRYING/FAILING AT RESTORING ON A PC FIND A FRIEND WITH A MAC. I hope this helps somebody.

Same problem here with 32G 3Gs white. Fixed after a reboot, but i've only had the phone for a couple days - wouldn't surprise me if it happens again.

Well at least your option is the best i tried but i make some diferences

Erase any Video at camera roll , sync it on itunes , make a backup and then a reboot
ant that's it . When my phone complete the reboot my camera app passed from shutter screen to camera on action ^.^

I'm having the same problem. Any luck? I also have 2g phone with 3.0 software.

Same thing happened to me. Bricked my new 3GS for about 10 min. Not a great first experience for a switching blackberry user. Booo camera coders!

Same problem. Brand new 3G. Tried resetting settings. Tried two button reset. Tried restore. Did have some luck - in fact I thought I fixed it - by taking a picture of the screen by holding down the power and home buttons for a second. That actually freed it up for a minute.

But now I'm back to closed shutter. Gotta be hardware because my last 3G never had this problem. I'm using 3.0.1. by the way.

I dunno, try taking a picture of the screen. Worked for me temporarily. May work for you.

Was having the same problem with my 3gs- after multiple restores, finally took it to the Genius Bar- they told me it was a hardware issue and swapped out my phone. Resetting/restoring will only be a temporarY fix at best. Take it to Apple and let them swap it out for you guys.

Just got back from the Apple store- they had never seen this problem before- but happily swapped my 3G out for a new unit. I'm still under Apple Care- not sure what would happen if I wasn't. Anyway, like da braddah says- got to the store!

I have the same exact problem with my 3G, nothing I do can even get it to budge, ever. Never seen it open, hopefully they will come with a fix! I'm dying without a camera.
