Apple education discount

Has anyone had a bad experience with this service? How does apple verify if you are actually a student?

I've used it a few times while studying for my associates degree. There is no verification (that I'm aware of). I was never contacted by Apple. I was never contacted by my school. I just picked my school and got the discount.

There was no verification that I know of when I bought it. (I'm an entering freshmen at the University of Texas).

I went in to my nearest Apple store to actually buy it and the guy checking us out gave me a $200 discount because that's how much the discount used to be (now its around $100, depending on the model you purchase). I told him that it was cool that it was a better discount than online, and he realized he made a mistake and said it was my lucky day because it was his fault, so I ended up getting twice the discount!

Yes it's basically $100 off a new Mac, plus the Touch promo, which I suppose is a good one if you need a Touch or just want to sell it plus get the rebate, my local has an instant free HP printer offer, and even though it's a horrible printer/scanner combo and they were out when I bought, I ordered one; they also have a free sleeve offer if you buy Apple Care; offers like these seem to vary from campus store to campus store.

Apple Customer Care is also good about sending free items or money off coupons if you have a problem and complain to them. They sent me a free Time Capsule over a problem with my iMac, and some discount coupons too, but the coupons expire in 30 days.

Never had an issue with this program. Went in the store, picked the macbook pro I wanted, showed my college ID (expired NYU school ID from three years - no question asked), discounted was taken off right then and there.

Note: if you're worried about your I.D. being not proper, no worries. I dont think apple associates really care what the number on the card is or what school you attend. Just as long it states "college or university"
