Delivery question!!!

I ordered a Macbook Pro 17 last Monday. I am suppose to get it today as schedule shows, but what I notice is the computer is not at my local neighborhood, it's at LOUISVILLE , KY , US. I live in San Jose, California.
Can anyone tell me what's going on with my laptop, it's far away from me.

Until the machine is actually listed as DELIVERED, it is in the handling and care of the shipper. You'd think they'd take the most direct route, but
often for whatever reasons they don't always. The arrival time in Anchorage might actually have been faster for a flight to JFK before going to Louisville, and then to the west coast. As others indicated UPS would be the one to contact to find otu what the reason is for the delay and shipping transit.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will make it's way to you today.... but as others have suggested... just give UPS a call:

1-800-PICK-UPS (742-5877)

Just give them your tracking number and they'll be able to let you know when it should be delivered. I know it can be a bummer when you're really anxiously waiting for something... but if it is currently in Kentucky, there isn't anything they can do to get it to you today. There are lots of things that can delay a shipment... generally weather... but it can be due to any number of things.

As tough as it might be... don't take it out on the UPS person you get on the phone.

I've had good and bad experiences with both FedEx and UPS... I would put them both at roughly the same level. I've generally had bad experience with DHL.

I wouldn't worry about damage. The majority of new machines (with standard configurations) ship directly from China and hit a few hubs on the way. I was a bit worried when I got mine as the box had a bit of a dent in it. Fortunately, Apple packs their machines well in their Apple branded box and then that box is packed in a plain brown box with spaces all around that keep the inner box a good two inches or so from the outer box.

I'm sure they get bounced around a bit in transit... but there's not really much damage that can happen within a computer that is powered off.

I'm sure it'll be fine. Look on the bright side... at least it should be delivered today. 🙂

I'm very familiar with the freight business. I worked with FedEx Express corporation for years, so I literally know one of their stations from the inside. After my observations, I wouldn't let FedEx handle my garbage! Compare the companies trucks on the road. FedEx's vehicles look like junk and quite often break down. Between the two, Apple and the customer are better off with UPS.

UPS at one point let a forklift go through a one of a kind of piece of artwork. The artist had a lot of difficulty getting compensation.
At least when you are ordering a computer, you can always ask the store you are ordering it from to handle the claims. In fact regardless of the package carrier, that's what they ask you. The shipper has the insurance on the package. Most carrier will include some limited insurance, but the shipper has to ask for additional insurance. No carrier is immune from bad stories. Just ask the company shipping you the computer to ensure that if there is damage, that you can call them immediately to request a replacement.
