Error 0xE8000065

OK so I was on 2.2.1 on my iPhone with iTunes 8.1.1 and everything was ok. I updated to 8.2 and updated my iphone to 3.0. At first itunes displayed a message saying my iphone was detected but couldnt be identified properly and said to disconnect and reconnect. I did so and now it says "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065). And everytime I unplug and reconnect iTunes displays this message, and sometimes it doesnt even recognize my iPhone. My pc recognizes the iPhone as a Camera(??) but iTunes does nothing... I also pluged my 1G iPod Touch and the same message is displayed... Can someone help??

This has been happening to me for a few weeks. Same error. Today after it happened again, I unplugged my lightning cable from one USB port in my computer and put it in a different port.

iTunes opened just fine and went through the backup process flawlessly.

Can't say why this fixed it, but it did.

I can also confirm this solution. I had a new computer I put together and the iPhone was giving the error on it. The error went away when I installed a USB 2.0 card that I had lying around. I had used the card in my old computer but didn't think I'd need it in my new computer (since it has so many USB ports built-in). The USB chipset of my adapter card, by the way, appears to be NEC. I don't know what chipset is on the motherboard, but the MB is Gigabyte P55M-UD4.

OK so I am apparently not very knoledgable in this area...I updated my BIOS and went to try and enable the C State and have NO idea how to...I don't see the things mentioned in the steps above in this thread when i'm in the BIOS. HELP!

I have a DELL Studio 15 Laptop, an Intel Core i7 Q820 @ 1.73GHz Windows 7 64bit...but I have no idea about the motherboard and from what i can tell, Intel(R) PM55 Express Chipset LPC Interface Controller - 3B03

I am having the same issue as lots have complained...iTunes recognizes my iPod Touch but when trying to set it up, it freezes iTunes immediately...can't sync, can't do anything...

This is kind of the general idea. Someone here just happened to have the same motherboard (GIGABYTE brand) that I got so I was able to set it up:

1. Go into BIOS
2. MB Intelligent Tweaker
3. Advanced Frequency Settings <<
4. Advanced CPU Core Features <<
5. Enable C3/C6/C7 State Support
6. F10 (SAVE TO CMOS AND EXIT)

Possibly step 3 or 4 should be the options you should look for in the BIOS.

But even then, that honestly seems to delay the inevitable. For one, every time I start up my computer with my Touch connected, my computer just goes into limbo with a black screen for like a disturbingly long 15-20 seconds. I was about to restart the computer until I hear that beep from my Touch that it's ready and finally go into the log on screen.

Second, when I just want to eject the Touch via iTunes, it just freeze up and doesn't do anything and I'm forced to end the process have or restart the computer.

Yes, it could be easily solved by just not connecting the Touch in the first place and simply unplugging it respectively but I didn't need to do all this folly on my HP DV6000 with Windows 7 Pro.

I seriously hope Apple or the manufacturers do something for these minor conveniences I just mentioned... unless they're common when setting to this c-state thing which I haven't looked up what it actually does other than fix the error problem then disregard it (though personally it'll be great to fix it)... but mainly fix the problems with the error 0xE8000065. Apple/manufacturers can't really except customers to remedy the problem through getting a second USB PCI card or doing changes on the motherboards.

Just a little thought, for those who C-state didn't helped.

I've read somewhere on google that windows7 and ICH10 (ie in P43 chipset from Intel) have problems with either MTB driver for Iphone or Syncing iphone with Itunes. That was the case for me too. C-state didn't helped me, reinstalling w7 or itunes either, as didn't many other 'ways'. What DID helped me was downloading latest chipset drivers from Intel. After updating them (which me thinks updates the USB control in w7) - works like a charm. Syncs, no freezing etc.... maybe others will find it usefull too.

Good luck

Hi, apologies if I am not following the correct procedure. I'm not at all technical and have never posted on a forum.

I have just upgraded to a new PC with windows 7 64 bit my motherboard is an asus p7p55D PRO.

My iphone worked fine on my previous 5 year old pC on windows XP, I can't get the computer no recognise it , it did twice but hasn't the last times I've tried. The error message saysi Tunes could not connect to this iphone because an unknown error occured (0xE8000065).

I have read all the threads and I'm completely confused no matter how hard I try I do not undersatnd the change the C state messages and have no idea where to begin.

If someone could point m ein the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Hello this is my first post in these forums, I felt it necessary to create an account in order to express my gratitude to ninintothevoid and all the others who helped me solve the problem we have been having with our Apple device (iPhone 3G for me).

In response to the above poster. I received success in updating my BIOS on my Gigabyte motherboard by downloading the software called "@BIOS" that they advertise on their BIOS upgrade page at Gigabyte.com. You must download this easy to use software in addition to the actual BIOS update itself and you should have no problem following the instruction that are provided with it. It was a quick way for someone such as myself who has never done "flashing" to update my BIOS.

After switching to C state and upgrading my BIOS my beloved iPhone is back in order.

Thanks once again, and I hope this helps SOMEONE.

edit: it might also be worth mentioning that the above procedure also solved another problem I was experiencing on my iPhone, where when ever a track would finish playing on the iPod portion of the device, it would immediately crash and reset to the main menu. This annoyance is now also gone 🙂

Put your phone into DFU mode using the following steps
1. Plug your phone into iTunes (ignore the message that pops up)
2. Power the phone OFF
3. Hold power and home for EXACTLY 10 seconds
4. Release power (continue to hold home)
5. iTunes will recognize iphone in restore mode (you can let go of home now)
6. Hold shift and click Restore

I finally got around to updating my BIOS using the @BIOS tool Vitalis described from the Gigabyte website (thanks Vitalis!), and so far it's working GREAT! Everything syncs as it should, and I've had no error messages. I've said this before, but I have a feeling this is the problem. Thanks again to everyone. The collaboative problem-solving comminuty of this discussion thread ALMOST makes me feel better about the HOURS I've lost on this.

I'm wondering, do you all think this is a Gigabyte problem, or an Apple problem? Either way, SOMEONE ought to solve it. It was ALMOST enough for me to go out and get a droid.

Also, FYI, I tried the DFU mode thing, and it didn't help at all.
