Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Apple asking for special consideration in regard to the upgrade to LE 9 because I bought just Logic Express 8 on June 25th and they have my registration date on file to prove it. I also bought my brand new Apple iMAC 24" on June 1st and the iWorks program not long after so they definitely got a good bit of cash from me recently. That said ... if they can't help a person who just bought Logic 8 a WEEK ago I doubt they will do anything for me. (I haven't heard back from them yet)

It's too bad ... I love my new Apple computer but some of the replies from Apple to their customers in this thread sound really cold, I'm not feeling too "warm and fuzzy" about the company right now. ;-(

hi quadrupolesmurf. you mentioned a kore-esque management system for audio samples in logic 9. did you read that somewhere, or have you seen it yourself? do you know if the media browser is any better in any way, than logic 8's media browser? thanks, tan.

i really need a tool whereby i can load all my audio samples, wav, mp3, aiff, rex, etc...and tag them in any way i want, and search them by filters, using my custom made tags as search terms. a bit like mediabay in cubase, except that mediabay is so slow and unstable. and exactly like kore's browser, except that you cant import youre own audio samples and customise tags in kore.

thanks

With the loudest squawker being apple themselves. It's hard to blame people for actually believing what Apple says on their website. Glad to hear they are wrong in this case.

So is it true that not only does 9 run on G5, but it actually runs better than 8 in terms of CPU use?

I bought Logic Studio (8) two weeks ago, but can't really say that I'm ******. It have been rumours a long time regarding the release of the Logic 9 release, and even a guy working with it have been interviewed about it. MY question is: what is the "physical" differences in the upgrade? When I upgrade now, will I still get that sick heavy box with tons of manuals and discs, or just a small package with the upgrade discs? Shorter: are the discs that follow the package the only difference?

to MartianR,
You should be able to get a free update or discounted update if you bought
the software within a month of the release, that is Apple's normal policy.
However even if that should prove to be false, that is typical of almost all
pro audio recording software, except most of them cost more than the
full edition of Logic to begin with, so it's painful to spend the coin, but
normally still worth keeping current with your software. It's the downside
to DAW recording, you can plan on having to replace hardware and update
software every three to five years and some of it will just become obsolete
overnight. Still you can get a new Macbook Pro and Logic for less than the
cost of one good compressor, so it's still a good deal.

strange. Apple NL does things quite a bit differently than in the US. Example, I needed a 4th logic board for my MacBookPro. In the US, they'd replace the machine altogether. Here in NL, they said "we fixed it, it's working again, so you have no claim anymore"...

sounds like you're getting the same kind of answer.

I use Future Store in Utrecht for these kinds of purchases. They have quite a bit of the prof clientele in NL, and seem to be able to resolve these kinds of issues for their customers. They've even intervened on my behalf for updates that are handled by the distributors for me.

Good luck!

Michael
