Logic 9: Intel Mac recommended or required?

Logic 9: Intel Mac recommended or required? Would love to upgrade, but can't yet afford a new Mac - anyone know if it can run on a G5 at all?

G5, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Right, and even though Apple said PPC is unsupported, you can bet it's been tested, too many pros still using PPC machines to just drop it or release it untested.

My biggest complaint and why I still keep a powerful PC available, when Apple wants to strong arm it's users into using the latest OSX (even though 10.5.7 ***) and the latest machines, you can bend way over and kiss your wallet goodbye.

I would imagine Logic 9 would run fine on 10.5.5 but that OS is no longer supported so Apple will not include that info or let it be installed. It's guess it's the lack of choices that bothers me.

How do you already have a copy of Logic Studio 9? Where did you buy it? Are you an Apple Beta Tester or on the Apple/EM Development team? Sweetwater.com or Audiomidi.com is only able to take pre- orders and will not have stock until August 1, 2009.

Try the Apple online store. I should have my copy by tomorrow. By the way, Pacifist is a great program but it has nothing to do with converting Intel code to PPC. Anyway, it looks like L9 is a Universal Binary so everybody chill.

I was replying to Blueberry and asking him or her how they already have a copy of Logic Studio 9 so that they can see the Finder information window for Logic Pro 9? Where did Blueberry buy it? The apple Store told me on the phone Logic Studio 9 is backordered this month.

I had used L8 on a G4 dual 867 and it was pretty decent, really. In Tiger it was even better. All tracks were rendered to audio, not running from VIs (which it wouldn't have done too well). But I was able to do a 60-track mix with no problem, using native effects plus UAD.

I'm wondering though if L9 is UB, the fact it says Intel minimum requirement, does this mean it requires that kind of power to operate well? The old specs used to say stuff like "Minimum G4 1.25 or better". Now it just says "Intel".

If it is truly only intel, then they've made a big jump. Usually new software leaves out the previous generation that it last supported; i.e. if it used to say "Minimum G4 1.25', the new one would say "Minimum G5 2.0 or better". So in this case, they skipped right over G5 to Intel. And most companies don't run out and buy every time a new model computer / software hits the streets. It would disrupt what is already set up and working well for them, plus the time involved in switching. And also don't frequent the forums or keep up with daily new releases as their workload takes priority.
