I just started having issues with this today. Wednesday was the last time I used iTunes. Today when I tried to launch it, it tells me that it can't run because some of the files are missing...
I proceed to reinstall and AVG tells me that there is a trojan small.BOG in the iTunes folder...
Needless to say, I'm not happy...I guess WMA will have to do until this is fixed.
I can tell you this. AVG did an update and now the Virus Database you downloaded now finds a "VIRUS" weather it's a scan or the Resident Shield. I had something similar with Windows reporting the same thing about one of it's services a few months back. Just ask AVG or for proof of it disable your AVG Resident Shield. This more than likely will be fixed in the next day or 2. Some days AVG just forgets to exempt certain things or puts the info in the wrong spot, causing the rest of us to freak out and get all upset at the more than likely free Anti-virus or paid protection from them depending on which you chose to get. Just be calm relax and do one of those 2 things. Just remember to NOT let AVG "fix" this problem otherwise your just causing problems for yourself later with the fact that there never was a problem. Hope this helps you all out.
You are not alone and so far this thread is the only place any search engines are pulling up relative to Small.BOG. My iTunes is dead and that included the one I downloaded a few minutes ago.
Just to add to it. My iTunes is now crashed too. I did get a Apple update a couple of days ago which i did NOT install. Wondering what this could be...
I too, just ran my AVG scan and it showed 200 !! unhealed/unhealable "Trojan Horse Small BOG" (or similar). Rebooted, etc. Tried to move it to virus vault but it says the file is too large and I even emptied my virus vault! What the????? Do we all really have a Trojan? Will check back in a few hours. TY
Having the same problem. AVG showing Trojan Horse.Small.BOG. I have uninstalled iTunes and it will not let me reinstall. Has anyone try to turn off AVG and use iTunes or to reinstall?
I had the same problem. iTunes was fine last night, turned it computer on today and AVG went nuts. First it told me iTunes had the Small.BOG trojan and when I tried to heal the infection and reinstall iTunes it freaked and told me every single iTunes file was a trojan. Fortunately I FIXED IT!! Doing a System Restore did the trick. The key is not to use the last restore point, which doesn't work, but pick one a few days back. iTunes is working just fine now, all of my music is there and undamaged and I turned the automatic updates feature on AVG OFF. They obviously sent out a really screwed up update, but they are ignoring the problem unfortunately.
Someone replied above with the following:
Current work around for me is to add "C:\Program Files (x86)\ipod" as an exception under Resident Shield>Manage Exceptions>Add Path.
I found that didn't work for me. BUT, if I follow their instructions and add the iTunes\iTunes Resources directory as an exception, then it works fine and iTunes works as normal.
Basically, most likely, AVG made an error that identified iTunes as a threat and they will correct it in a few days.
