it must be the virus definitions that avg released today. I noticed that avg updated itself right before it started saying itunes was infected. I'm just going to put the c:\program files\ipod and c:\program files\itunes in avg's exception list for now.
I'm having the same problem too - also running AVG. Was suspicious It was a false positive as iTunes has worked fine even since new iTunes update. Nervous to ignore It though...
I got this as well, suspecting an AVG issue, although even if I deactivate AVG altogether and try to reinstall iTunes I get failed to register itunesminiplayer.dll
I'm assuming this is a false positive...I checked my "last updated" time with AVG, and it was about 5 min before the virus alert triggered...iTunes playing the whole time. I just told AVG to ignore it for now...if it helps anyone figure things out, this is the "last updated" description for AVG's virus definition list:
Added detection of new variant of Worm/Generic.AETM, new variants of trojans Clicker.AAPB, BackDoor.Generic11.AEZP, BackDoor.Generic11.AEZN, PSW.OnlineGames3.JNA, PSW.Generic7.SKT.
Some also in Temporary Internet Files, iPodService.Resources, basically anything that has iTunes or iPod in it. Along with system volume information and it says it also has this Trojan Horse.Small.Bog
It appears that everyone just got this result in AVG almost at the same time span. Hmm
I'm having the same problem. Used iTunes last night with no problem, but when I docked my iPhone an hour ago it brought up 3 alerts, and a full AVG scan has so far brought up 200 infected files in the installer cache and the latest iTunes installation exe which I still have on my HDD. Found this thread through a frantic google search.

This works. I'm sure its just a FUBAR on AVG's part. Maybe Palm has some shares in AVG...MUAHAAAA!!
Cough
I had the same problem. I think it's AVG acting on something completely innocent. I scanned with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware as well, and it turned out no results. Still, to be on the safe side, I uninstalled iTunes.
If I can't reinstall iTunes, that really will suck. It's my favourite media player.
AVG detects a trojan on the newest iTunes download (for 64 bit Vista) from Apple. I think some bogus virus definition in the AVG database is causing a false positive. Anyway, I have searched AVG's site and they don't even have any information about 'Small.BOG'.
It is not a good idea to add an exception for the iTunes directories, either. If we do that, a virus targeting iTunes won't be caught. Maybe complaining to AVG, I don't know, I have the free version...
I had the exact same problem. I disconnected from the Internet, uninstalled AVG (Free version) and then ran iTunes. It configured and is now working fine.
