iTunes trojan: Small.BOG!!

Tried to open iTunes just now and got an AVG Alert telling me that iTunes.dll and iTunesRegistry.dll are infected with "Trojan horse Small.BOG".

I only just used it yesterday without issue.

Anyone had this before? Any ideas?

I'm assuming this is a false positive...I checked my "last updated" time with AVG, and it was about 5 min before the virus alert triggered...iTunes playing the whole time. I just told AVG to ignore it for now...if it helps anyone figure things out, this is the "last updated" description for AVG's virus definition list:

Added detection of new variant of Worm/Generic.AETM, new variants of trojans Clicker.AAPB, BackDoor.Generic11.AEZP, BackDoor.Generic11.AEZN, PSW.OnlineGames3.JNA, PSW.Generic7.SKT.

Yeah my AVG detected about 150 infections in

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 8.2.1.6\iTunes.msi:\iTunes.cab:\iPodService.Resources es.lprojiPodServiceLocalized.dll";"Trojan horse Small.BOG";"Infected"

Some also in Temporary Internet Files, iPodService.Resources, basically anything that has iTunes or iPod in it. Along with system volume information and it says it also has this Trojan Horse.Small.Bog

It appears that everyone just got this result in AVG almost at the same time span. Hmm

it must be the virus definitions that avg released today. I noticed that avg updated itself right before it started saying itunes was infected. I'm just going to put the c:\program files\ipod and c:\program files\itunes in avg's exception list for now.

This works. I'm sure its just a FUBAR on AVG's part. Maybe Palm has some shares in AVG...MUAHAAAA!! Cough

AVG detects a trojan on the newest iTunes download (for 64 bit Vista) from Apple. I think some bogus virus definition in the AVG database is causing a false positive. Anyway, I have searched AVG's site and they don't even have any information about 'Small.BOG'.

It is not a good idea to add an exception for the iTunes directories, either. If we do that, a virus targeting iTunes won't be caught. Maybe complaining to AVG, I don't know, I have the free version...

iTunes trojan: Small.BOG!!
