iPhone 3gs 3.0.1 Apps Crash on startup

I upgraded my iPhone 3gs to the newest firmware 3.0.1 earlier this week. Everything seemed to go well until I tried to launch my USA Today app and it crashed. I tried a few more apps and they all crashed too. I figured no big deal I will just back up and restore the phone and things will be fine. I ran the restore and then I sync'd my apps back on and the problem is still the same. Native apps work fine like Safari and Stocks but all third party apps crash on start up. I poked around and everyones advice was to restore. If anyone has another suggestion short of going to the Genius Bar(can't make it there until atleast Saturday) I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

How about it isn't Apple's job to test any 3rd party apps, even one 3rd party app? And what good would that do? And which single 3rd party app out of over 65,000 should they test? Thanks for my laugh for the day.

Apple provides all app developers a firmware update seed for each firmware update and any updated seeds before the final version is released. It is up to each 3rd party app developer to test their apps with a firmware update seed provided them, along with providing Apple feedback including any bug reports.

This is a strange thread, methinks. I've had my 3GS since Jun 19 (ten days shy of three months) and now have ten pages of apps installed. In that time not one of my apps has crashed. No complaints: But I'd like to know what I'm doing right so I can keep on doing it 🙂

This does sound like it could be a memory issue per

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1295

where it says in part "Applications on iPhone or iPod touch may close unexpectedly because the device has begun to run low on application memory. This does not mean there is too much data stored on the device but simply means that it is running too many memory-intensive tasks."

If it's just one app, I agree, it can't be Apple's responsibility to test every single 3rd party app. However, if it's the problem of every 3rd party app crashing upon launch, that's not an app problem. That's an OS problem.

I had the same problem a few months ago, and I did the whole trick of installing a free app, and it worked fine. However, I am having a repeat of this problem, and this time, I'm stuck with the double whammy of being unable to access the internet and thus, unable to access the app store. (In fact, the way the problem started this time was when I had a problem restarting my iPhone when my internet access suddenly dropped, and I thought restarting it would restore the data signal - which it didn't. 😟 )

well unsyncing everything turning phone off and rebooting Mac turning phone on syncing one app did not work so did full restore prior though took screenshot of the way I had my apps organized and my fave list for contacts

restore and set as new phone sync'ed one app (Facebook) and it loaded no problem

I think due to other threads around here mentioning that this works for few days I will not load my full list of apps but rather a page or two

but thankfully for now everything is working and yes it feels like a new phone

I sent my iPhone 3G (OS 3.0) in for a repair and it came back with 3.0.1 on it. All went well and I had restored and reinstalled a few Apps. I used all of them - and no problem.

This morning, however, I fired Skype up for the first time after installing it on my iPhone and BANG!

Skype crashed on startup and afterwards all the apps that I had used this morning - without problem - started doing the same.

So I tried OS 3.1 thinking it may be a 3.0.1 issue. Sadly, the 3rd party Apps did the same thing.

I've removed Skype and did the whole 'install a free App' routine. All works now, but I've left Skype off the iPhone for now.

I'll post again if the problem recurs.

I had the same problem, I had waited to upgrade to 3.0.1 til mid week last week. Upgraded to 3.0.1 and no downloaded apps worked, I tried upgrading to 3.1 same issues. The genius bar was no help as I also had a problem with sending email ( didn't work in 3.0, did in 3.0.1 then not in 3.1 ).
Someone list a response as to what worked for them, was restoring as a NEW iphone, rather than using your existing phone name / id. Worked for me, it restored from my most recent backup which was in 3.1 - I had to tweak a couple of things like my favorites in phone settings and ringtone assignments to individuals. Also did not carry over my camera roll, but what the hey. Its now better than a paper weight.

I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM!

Yes, I tried every one of the recommended steps and none of them worked.

So I decided to fire up iTunes and logged in to my iTunes Store account. I changed my account password, then went back to my iPhone and downloaded one of the paid apps that would crash on opening. After downloading the app, I tried running it and guess what? It opened successfully!

To sum up ...

1. Open iTunes
2. Log in to your iTunes Store Account
3. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD
4. Download a paid app directly on your iPhone
5. Re-authenticate with your new password when asked to do so

That's it. Best of luck to all.
