Canon Support for Snow Leopard

Canon has posted their support schedule for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for their consumer printers.

http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8200620400.html

It looks like if your product is a few years old then it is not advisable to purchase 10.6, or be ready to buy a new printer.

As for their business products, such as the imageRUNNER series, none of the current Canon printer drivers work on 10.6. Having been involved with the 10.6 seed testing I found that while the drivers appear to install okay, the creation of a network printer queue fails. This occurred with the following drivers.

CUPS PS v2.11
PS v1.81
UFR2 v1.80
Fax v2.20

So if you feel the need to update, then beware.

If your Canon device supports PostScript, then you can use either the Generic PostScript included with 10.6 or install the Canon PPDs so that you get some finishing options.

If your Canon device only supports a Canon proprietary protocol, such as UFR2, CAPT or GARO, then there is currently no solution for them with Mac OS X 10.6.

Also, the printer has th old J1 driver on it via web browser, but it does not work.

Yes, the driver on the J1 is still for 10.5.

EFI never released an official driver for the imagePASS-J1 for 10.6. Instead they provided a patch that gets run after installing the 10.5 driver that you download off the J1.

Checking the Canon USA web site they don't appear to have this patch update. So I have provided a link to driver downloads section of the [Canon Australia web site|http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Support-Services/Drivers-and-Downloads]. Here you will need to type imagepassj1 in the "Find your product" search window. You will then see the Postscript Printer Driver Update 1.0.

" I contacted a leasing company and the guy sent me the J1v1.2 driver and the "Fiery Print Driver update for OS X 10.6"

I have tried for days to get my printer working again. I have the Canon imagePASS-C1 IR C3200 with the Fiery. OS x 10.6.7

Is there anyway you could send me a copy of those. I would so appreciate it.

Thanks,
Larry

Hi. I just upgraded to snow leopard last month and i didn't notice any problems until i tried to print a document. when i click the print tab on any program, the whole program would just freeze. i've downloaded the latest printer driver for my MP160 but upon installation it just freezes at the point where it says "running package scripts". i don't know if it's related, but on system settings the printer and fax pane also won't open. when i click on it, the program would stop responding and i have to force quit the system settings. the other panes are working fine. i really don't know what's wrong. 😟

Canon imagePASS-C1 IR C3200 with the Fiery. OS x 10.6.7

Has anyone been able to do it?

You need to create the print queue using IP > LPD for the protocol. Then for the print queue you need to enter print and it must be entered in lower case. You can then select the C1 PPD in the Print Using menu.

PAHU

Thank you for trying to help me. I bet I have a hundred hours over the last month+ trying to get this to work.

I have another computer on the network which is an eMac running 10.2.8. I can print from it to the Canon. The PPD I use is Canon IR C3200-C1 PS Ver1.0.

Prior to updating to 10.6.7 on my iMac, I would print from my iMac to the printer via that computer. The apps I need to print from are on the iMac.

The PPD on the eMac is located: Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lprog/Canon IR C3200-C1 PS Ver1.0

I tried what you said but I must be missing something.

1. I add a printer

2. This window comes up with a globe at the top with IP selected

This is what is below it:

Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD (per your instructions)

Address: (this is blank--the IP address of the printer is 192.168.0.227) I have tried with and without the Address filled in with this IP address

Queue: print (per your instructions)

then

Name: (I put in Canon--if I leave it blank I can not add the printer)

Location: (this is blank--the IP address of the printer is 192.168.0.227) I have tried with and without the Address filled in with this IP address

Print Using: In the box next to Print Using is has Choose a Driver or Printer Model

(????? I do not see what to do here. When I check to see if the PPD is located in the same place as on the eMac there are not any PPDs - It goes like this: Library/Printers/ (and here appears two devices I have on the network Canon MX310 series and Stylus Photo R800 (FW)

The Canon Image Runner does not show up.

What is the exact name of the what I should be seeing when you say "select the C1 PPD in the Print Using menu" and where would it be located if I looked for it on my computer and how do I install it?

Print Using: If I select "Select Printer Software" I get a list of probably 200 printers including:

Canon iR C3200

Canon iR C3200 CanonPS

Canon iR C3200 PS (US)

Canon iR C3200-C1 PS Ver1.0

Canon iR C3200-C1 PS Ver2.1

I have tried all of these but no luck. I am not sure of where this list comes from because if I search my computer it does not find them even though I have downloaded an ran the install program for many many drivers hoping one of them one work but I don't think they ever install anywhere since I can not locate them.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you actually been able to print to this printer using 10.6.7?

Thanks

With regards to the eMac running 10.2.8, this would be using AppleTalk to connect to the imagePASS-C1. Since AppleTalk was dropped from 10.6 then you have to use IP protocols, such as LPD or HP Jetdirect, which is also known as Port 9100.

So with the IP protocol you do have to enter an IP address. The C1 does not support advertising protocols over IP so that is why you need to manually enter the IP address of the C1. Then as you have done, you enter a queue name of print and in the Print Using menu, choose 'Select printer software' and then browse for the 'Canon iR C3200-C1 PS Ver2.1". Note that while the eMac is using the v1.0 PPD, the Snow Leopard Mac running on Intel needs to use the v2.1 PPD. As for the other C3200's in the list, this shows that part of your 100 hours has beed due to installing every C3200 driver that is available 😉. The first three in the list are for the internal Canon printer board, while the last two are for the imagePASS-C1. And as for the installed location, it will be the same path you stated for the eMac. Just remember it is the Hard Drive Library folder - not the User Library folder.

So with the correct IP address added, the queue name of print and the C1 v2.1 PPD selected in the Print Using menu, this should get you printing. Since it appears that it is not, then you need to confirm some things.

1. The IP address is correct. If you open your web browser of choice and enter the C1 IP address as the URL, this will open the internal web page of the C1. Are you able to connect to the C1 web page?

2. The LPD print queue is enabled on the C1. To check this you will need to print the C1 network configuration page. It's been years since we had a C3200 with C1 so I cannot remember all the steps to get this page. With a bit of luck the web page will give you this option if you can connect to it.

3. If the IP address is correct then the driver could be a cause for no print. So you could try a create another queue using LPD but use the Generic Postscript driver. And you could also try creating the queue but using HP Jetdirect for the protocol instead of LPD (this protocol is always on by default because it is what Windows uses and its important we don't inconvenience those users...)

Hope this helps you. Reply if not. And as for printing to the C1 from 10.6.7 the answer is no. We haven't had this model for years - we were definitely using Tiger and maybe just started getting Leopard when we last had the copier. Upgraded it to the iR C5185 with H1 which we still have.

What is it like being a genius?!!

It WORKS!!

One of the problems was I had the wrong IP address for the printer. The screen on the printer gave me one IP address but the configuration sheet I printed out had another IP address. The correct IP address was on the configuration sheet under ethernet set up.

When I put the IP address in the browser it did not work in FireFox but when I put it in Safari it took me to Canon Fiery. However, when I tried to look at what was there I got this errror message:

Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24

Using JRE version 1.6.0_24-b07-334-10M3326 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM

User home directory = /Users/Larry

No big deal since I was now able to print.

Thanks again! Do you work for Canon? I hope what people find here will help them with their Canon IR C3200 with fiery.

THANKS for taking the time to help me.

Larry
