Canon Support for Snow Leopard

Canon has posted their support schedule for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for their consumer printers.

http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8200620400.html

It looks like if your product is a few years old then it is not advisable to purchase 10.6, or be ready to buy a new printer.

As for their business products, such as the imageRUNNER series, none of the current Canon printer drivers work on 10.6. Having been involved with the 10.6 seed testing I found that while the drivers appear to install okay, the creation of a network printer queue fails. This occurred with the following drivers.

CUPS PS v2.11
PS v1.81
UFR2 v1.80
Fax v2.20

So if you feel the need to update, then beware.

If your Canon device supports PostScript, then you can use either the Generic PostScript included with 10.6 or install the Canon PPDs so that you get some finishing options.

If your Canon device only supports a Canon proprietary protocol, such as UFR2, CAPT or GARO, then there is currently no solution for them with Mac OS X 10.6.

Good day to everybody,

Can anybody help me to fix my Canon LBP 3050 printer? It was working with the iMac Os 10.5 version perfectly since I am upgrading my iMac frequently the Printer stop working properly. Currently my IMac is updated to OsX.10.6.7.

I have downloaded the “CAPT Printer Driver Ver.3.31 for Mac OS X 10.4/10.5/10.6” Driver Software from the Canon website for Mac.

When I select the print & Fax from the System Preferences, then clicked the + to add the printer, then clicked on More Printers and select Canon USB (CUPS CAPT) for a USB connected printer. there isn't any printers in the list. Therefore,I was not able to click the Add button. The button appeared grey in colour and I was allowed to click Cancel only.

The printer is working perfectly with the Microsoft Vista version. This is regarded to the driver software issue. Its not working with Mac only.

I tried to work with Canon “CAPT Printer Driver Ver.2.40 for Mac OS X 10.3/10.4” Driver Software it failed too.

Its a great help if anybody kindly guide me to rule out this issue.

Thank you.

I am running Mac OS X v10.6.4. I have just purchased a Canon LBP 5360 which I am trying to get running. I have downloaded printer driver LBP5360 UFR II (UK), using CNTDLBP5360ZUK.ppd. I tried to set up my IP settings but when I try to print I keep getting error message " Canon UFR II Printer Driver cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported" 10322

Where do I get my printers IP address?

Do I need to install any software that came with the printer?

Can you please go through the setup process for me in layman terms. I am not very technically minded and am busy tearing my hair out at a rate.

I don't know this model so I cannot correctly advise the best way to determine the printers IP address. Canon does have a utility called NetSpot Device Installer. This can scan your network for Canon printers and show details about the ones it does find, and let you set an IP address in a machine that is not already configured. The utility should have be on one of the CDs that came with the printer.

It may also be possible to determine and set the IP address using the buttons on the printer. There should be a printed Setup guide that explains the key sequence. I would expect there to be a Report menu and within this a Configuration report. This should show what IP address the machine has acquired on your network.

And another method could be to view the settings of your Ethernet router. If the router is assigning IP addresses on your network then you should be able to check its DHCP list and see what has been allocated to the LBP.

If you are in a hurry and just need to get some printing, then you could connect the printer to the Mac via USB and add the USB connected printer. When you open Print & Fax, click the + to add and select the Default icon. The LBP should be shown. Select it and then change the Print Using menu to 'Select printer software'. Then type 5360 to shorten the hit list. This should show the LBP5360 which you can select and click OK then Add to complete the print queue creation.

For the iR C3380 there are two drivers available and the Canon PPDs.

If your iR C3380 has support for Postscript then you can either use the Canon PS3 v3.23 driver or the Canon PPD v3.05.

If your iR C3380 does not have the Postscript kit installed then you will need to use the Canon UFR2 v2.24 driver.

If you already have tried these driver versions and you still cannot print to the iR C3380 then you it could be related to how you are creating the print queue. With the PS3 and UFR2 drivers you need to use IP > LPD for the protocol. This in turn requires that the LPR service is enabled on the iR C3380. To check if the service is enabled you can use the Remote UI of the copier. Open a web browser and type the IP address of the iR C3380. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier. Down the left column you will see Additional Functions. Select this and then select Custom Settings. Now in the right pane you will see Network Settings and a link to LPD Print Settings. Select this and the new page will show if the service is enabled. If there is a tick next to Use LPD then you can exit from this page. If not ticked, then do so and click OK. Now you can exit this web page but you will have to cycle the power on the copier for the change to take effect.

If you have the LPD service enabled on the copier and you have created an LPD queue on the Mac and it still does not work then please reply with more information about what error you are getting and your network environment.

I have been having a problem with Mac OS X 10.6.x with a Canon 7105 with EFI/Canon Imagepass Fiery S2.

Reading thru the forums here and also within EFI and Canon, everyone pointed to the EFI Fiery Patch, and changing your startup modes on applications to 32 bit mode.

On my situation, completely trashed/emptied trash of every Canon UFRII, and S2 PS driver on my MBP17 08 model. I have 10.6.7 installed.

My steps were to install from the SL DVD Rosetta, then I did a power down, and startup.

Next I installed the S2 10.5 driver, EFI uses the old PPC installer.

Next I installed the Fiery Patch.

After this I setup the printer, IP, LPD, selected the Canon 7105 S2 PS ver 2 driver.

Configured my installed options. Good yes, on some applications.

MS word 2008, would see all the extended features and worked nicely.

However, Preview, Safari, TextEdit did not work. The extended features were crossed out. I go back, change startup modes to 32bit, enable Rosetta if it's available on the list. Still come back with the same issue on losing extended features.

Since I was going to need it anyways, I went back to EFI, downloaded the newest version of Command Workstation 5 for Mac. It is free BTW. You just have to submit some user information to get access.

Installed CWS5. Launched the CWS5 app, did my configuring setup since I do have fiery's to connect with. Afterwards I decided to retest Preview, Safari and TextEdit. Behold, the extended features were available.

On Safari I had to disable Rosetta, after doing that the extended features became available.

I don't know if CWS5 has installed some patches or addressed issues. But it's worth a try, the CWS5 is a large download.

I have a canon iSensys LBP5360 which I am trying to run from my Mac (OS 10.6.8) through my network (ethernet router). I have downloaded and installed the latest Uk UFR 11 driver. I have downloaded and installed Netspot. I have selected my printer through LPD in Print & Fax preferences using the IP address as assigned in Netspot. I have set the IP address on the printer to the same as the IP address assigned in Netspot. I have set the subnet address on the printer to my router address. Netspot can see my printer, it can open in my browser and I can make changes to the settings. It tells me the printer is ready to print. But when I try to print I keep getting a message "cannot communicate with the printer" 10322, and the printer goes into pause mode. I have also tried to connect via USB port but the printer is not showing in Print & Fax preferences under Default. The funny thing is my MacBook Pro which is also connected to the network router shows up in my default printers as a Bonour printer. This printer is about to go out window. Can someone help!
