Time Capsule Powered Off, Won't Power Back On

My Time Capsule was running just fine, then spontaneously just powered off by itself. All the other devices in the power strip were fine and I tried switching outlets, plugging it directly into the wall, and unplugging the TC and plugging the power cord back in. The network port lights in the back are out and the light on the front is dark. However, when I first plugged the cable back into the TC, the network lights came on for a split second. I'm guessing that there's a power connection fried (because if it were a power supply failure the lights would not have blinked on at all).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just to add to the overall numbers (but being realistic and not expecting any resolution from Apple) - mine went out yesterday - completely dead. As a victim of the 'fried' level 2 cache on a G3 as a result of a software 'upgrade' a few years back, I am always suspicious when there are 'mass kills' immediately following an upgrade, but who can ever prove it...

Once again it has paid off to have Apple Care!

Just got off the phone with an Apple Expert http://www.apple.com/support/expert/

My MacBook pro is under apple care and the out of warranty Time Capsule is covered (purchased at different times).
They are sending me a replacement TC in the mail tomorrow.

Rather than going to the genius bar its probably better just to call and talk to an apple expert.

The only bummer is I don't know that there is a way to get all my data back from the dead TC.

You guys are scarying me as ****. I paid a lot for this device, and mine is a 500GB Time Capsule, bought around 15-20 months ago. I tried looking up on Apple's latest 18 months orders but it didn't show up, I don't know why.

I don't have enough money to buy a new one, as I'm at university and don't work during the year, etc. I will soon receive my (pre-ordered, yeah...) copy of Snow Leopard and will absolutely need the Time Machines backups on my Time Capsule to upgrade properly and quickly.

If it dies, I'm gonna be REALLY mad at them, because I've had no chance at all with Apple in September. I can't believe Apple offers absolutely no support at all regarding this? I suggest that you all call them at the same time, or tell some websites like MacRumors, MacPlus, HardMac (Macbidouille), Neowin, etc. and maybe Apple will change their mind regarding that, if it gets mediatized enough.

Keep it by itself (not on top of or next to other electronic gear) and in a cool spot. Mount rubber feet or something on the bottom so you get some more ventilation. That might extend the life a bit. Sorry, I wish I had something better to offer, but it is almost certainly going to die. Just a matter of time. :-/

Time and tide waits for no man...!!

Still if you TC goes belly up... sure wait for Apple to get its act together and fix it.. but if you are interested in actually making it work long term, I have done some repairs and a fan mod to keep it cool here.

Just check the two linked sites.

Mine died as well yesterday - it happened suddenly without the high pitch noise that some experienced.

I am pretty sure my Applecare for my desktop covers its replacement.

My question: is there a way to save the data in my dead Time Capsule AND not void the Applecare warranty so I still qualify for the replacement? The data is not only back up but other files as well.

Leave it cold for a day and try to start it up again. If it starts up grab the data off it. Otherwise no, other than hacking it and losing your warranty there is no way to recover your data. Ask the apple store why they made it with a hard disk that could not be removed?? Ask them why it is called time capsule... time bubble might be closer to the truth.
Sorry I have shown how to fix it... I guess if you did it very very carefully they wouldn't know you had done it. you could exchange the hard drive for some dead unit you have around. I suspect with the truck loads of these things that are going to start arriving in the store they won't check that carefully... but you have to take the risk... if you need the data.
