Time Capsule Powered Off, Won't Power Back On

My Time Capsule was running just fine, then spontaneously just powered off by itself. All the other devices in the power strip were fine and I tried switching outlets, plugging it directly into the wall, and unplugging the TC and plugging the power cord back in. The network port lights in the back are out and the light on the front is dark. However, when I first plugged the cable back into the TC, the network lights came on for a split second. I'm guessing that there's a power connection fried (because if it were a power supply failure the lights would not have blinked on at all).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

It is definitely power supply .. if you open it up tell us if it is delta brand.. Apple did use a second brand to Flextronics.. Delta being one of the really big players in the power supply industry in China and with good quality products.. they did seem to last longer.. although they are not easy to fix.. normally when dead they are throw away.

Repair is probably not worth it but here is how to do it.

SSD is pointless..

The TC much too slow for an SSD to be of any use..

People have tried.. see the review here where they substituted SSD and got worse performance.

If you want to reduce power consumption use a 2.5" 1TB drive.. but the 3.5" green drive is much cheaper and really just as good.

Thank you for your encouragement, I have replaced the faulty power supply, installed a brand new WD green drive and improved the cooling mechanism. I didn't change the control wire though. Instead, I have placed the temperature sensor in a heat sink inside the power supply... It made the fan work more frequently and keep the power supply cooler.

Everything is documented here:

It's in Brazilian Portuguese but the pictures say it all.

Hello Andrew

Sadly your new TC is suffering from a dead power supply.. There is no repair. Yours will be the AC model and I have not had a chance to start repairing them yet.

At 6months old just ring apple support in your country and they will arrange for a replacement.

Mine died the first week I owned it.. The second one was fine though. There is a power supply problem.. I was itching so bad to open it and find out.. but really it is too expensive a unit to be playing with.. and forfeiting warranty.. just get apple to do their duty.
