iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I just repaired the power supply on my own.
It works great, and cost me about 3 euros.
Mine died two days ago. It was less than two days old. The Apple dealer checked the serial number and said "Sorry" ...
Well if you live in the UK try this guy Chris http://www.fackrell.me.uk/ he just repaired mine and it is perfect!!
Add yet another unsatified Apple evangelist. I got my TC as a replacement for another Apple screwup. I think I got screwed again.
Anone found a solution for someone without a soldering set up and electronics experience worthy of a $500 piece of equipment?

Check with repairer list.
Some of the local independent Apple repair places might be prepared to look at it.
Some of the people I have listed can sell you a refurbished power supply or an external power supply. Or they can do the work for you at reasonable amount. The charge should be around $100-150.
My one also died this week, serial number xx820xxx-what-ever.
No lights on, if plugged green light shows for a brief second, then yellow for a few moments, then makes [piuuu] (soft sound like something powering down) and goes dead.
Have a similar problem for the past 6 months. The Time Capsule just stops working. No sound when it dies.
I have been able to revive it every time by just unpluging it for a couple of seconds, and the light turns back on orange, and then green after a minute or so.
Is this a warning that it is going to die soon ?
Most people on this board mention that theirs died completely. No mouth to mouth rescucitation possible.
Who has the exact same problem as me and what is their take on the problem?
Hi sbistj,
my one died without any warning. One day it was there, the day after it was dead. Good luck with yours, anyway !
There are two different power supplies.. Flextronics and Delta.. they behave differently. Yours is Delta.. one day it will no longer boot.. get ready because it isn't far away.
My TC 500gb died over the weekend. I took it to the Apple genius bar today and they confirmed it is dead and there is no easy/inexpensive way to retrieve data. They offered $50 off a new TC. I said NO WAY would I risk lossing ,ore data with an APPLE storage device. I can't believe APPLE is so non- chalant about this piece of junk. A back-up storage device is the most important part of anyone's system. APPLE knows that these are defective and they are doing nothing about it. I will never buy another APPLE storage unit. I suggest you buy some other brand where you will get better customer support.
LaPastenague has a great resource site. If it's your power supply that died, there's a good chance you can retrieve your data.
My 27 month-old TC 500GB just died as well. The good news is that I only used it for backing up other computers. As I don't need its WiFi capability anymore, I'm just going to Best Buy and get a networked external drive for $100.
I should have known that the longevity of this device was suspect when I felt how hot it would get. My wife ended up putting a pie rack under it to protect the finish on the desk from the heat.
Very poorly engineered device - classic case of Apple's form over function.
Mine just fried today as well. I ended up buying an AirPort Express. It is sooo frustrating to think that I have this whole hard drive of information I cannot access. When I plug it in, the green light goes on, then the yellow light, then some fizzle sound inside, and then nothing. My parter has made fun of me from day one for being all Googley Eyes for Apple, and these types of experiences really don't help my case. We should be able to buy a produce and have it last a lifetime, or at least more then 2-3 years. We are just paying the price of outsourcing everything to China.

There's nothing about china here...
TC seems to have a faulty design, that's all. Leave the chinese people alone 🙂
the bigest cause of electronics going bad is dust.
