HP Device FAQ

OK, it looks like I need to get this started if nothing else to head off questions. So that being said without further ado here goes. And I will try to keep this thread updated over the coming days.

=====

Question: Where can I find the latest print/scan/fax drivers for my HP device?

Answer: All of the latest drivers as of this point in time are included on the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. As of right now you will not find anything newer on HP.com. There are three ways to get the drivers, all relatively simple.

1) Install the OS with your device connected - if the installer sees you have an HP printer it will install drivers for your HP printer.

2) Plug your device in and print - if the drivers are not installed, the simple act will prompt Software Update to ask if you'd like to install the drivers.

3) Download the driver package from the Apple download page here. There is really no reason to need this last step unless you run an Installer or Uninstaller from the CD that came with your device or HP.com and things no longer work.

=====

Question: What devices are HP supporting with the In-OS drivers?

Answer: A full list of supported devices can be found here. This list will also tell you if your multi-function device includes drivers for scan and fax (if your device has fax capabilities) or simply print drivers.

=====

Question: My device isn't listed on the list, does that mean my device is not supported?

Answer: No. HP is working on updating the list of unsupported devices so you can tell if you're device won't be supported. For devices that are not on the support on unsupported list, that doesn't mean they will be supported, it means HP is currently investigating if they can support them. As always HP.com is the best place for you to check. And as I know more, I'll post the updates here.

=====

Question: You have lots of answers, are you here officially supporting HP?

Answer: No. I am here helping out because I know OS transitions can be difficult for some people. Hopefully with the In-OS support for printing, scanning, and faxing this transition will be smoother then past ones. That being said, I have a full time job at HP and I am doing this on my own in addition to that job. And as always, any viewpoints expressed are purely my own and in no way should be considered official statements from HP.

Correct, HP Scan Pro does not run on 10.6. As pointed out, you can Scan from the queue, from Preview, or from Image Capture. If you need some functionality of HP Scan Pro you'll have to wait for us to get our Snow Leopard rolls posted which will contain scan software that does work for that device. What functionality of HP Scan Pro are you missing?

If you're still having problems connecting to the Airport Extreme after the update to 7.4.2 please let me know and I'll see what else we can do. Note though the C5180 does have an ethernet port on the back of it. You could plug it into the Airport Extreme base station that way (since you said you are looking for .2, I assumed 7.4.2 and the flat Extreme that is also an ethernet hub).

I found my "HP Officejet 5600 series" (Officejet 5610xi all-in-one) didn't work after SL install...but I got it back. Although HP tells you not to install the HP set of drivers, I found...much like I did when I upgraded from tiger to leopard, that reinstalling the HP driver set for 10.4/10.5 solved my problem. I can now print and scan without an issue. Otherwise, the "software update" would just hang and tell me no driver was available from Apple when 'adding' the printer from the list of connected peripherals.

You are not completely out of luck with the HP PSC 1350. There will be a driver made available at some point in the future through Apple Software Update. We're even investigating if we can include a scan driver at some point beyond that. In the meantime your best bet is the Full Feature download that also supports 10.5. There may be some features missing and/or broken, and this solution is NOT supported, but you might be able to get print back by using this (no guarantees though).
