HP Device FAQ

OK, it looks like I need to get this started if nothing else to head off questions. So that being said without further ado here goes. And I will try to keep this thread updated over the coming days.

=====

Question: Where can I find the latest print/scan/fax drivers for my HP device?

Answer: All of the latest drivers as of this point in time are included on the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. As of right now you will not find anything newer on HP.com. There are three ways to get the drivers, all relatively simple.

1) Install the OS with your device connected - if the installer sees you have an HP printer it will install drivers for your HP printer.

2) Plug your device in and print - if the drivers are not installed, the simple act will prompt Software Update to ask if you'd like to install the drivers.

3) Download the driver package from the Apple download page here. There is really no reason to need this last step unless you run an Installer or Uninstaller from the CD that came with your device or HP.com and things no longer work.

=====

Question: What devices are HP supporting with the In-OS drivers?

Answer: A full list of supported devices can be found here. This list will also tell you if your multi-function device includes drivers for scan and fax (if your device has fax capabilities) or simply print drivers.

=====

Question: My device isn't listed on the list, does that mean my device is not supported?

Answer: No. HP is working on updating the list of unsupported devices so you can tell if you're device won't be supported. For devices that are not on the support on unsupported list, that doesn't mean they will be supported, it means HP is currently investigating if they can support them. As always HP.com is the best place for you to check. And as I know more, I'll post the updates here.

=====

Question: You have lots of answers, are you here officially supporting HP?

Answer: No. I am here helping out because I know OS transitions can be difficult for some people. Hopefully with the In-OS support for printing, scanning, and faxing this transition will be smoother then past ones. That being said, I have a full time job at HP and I am doing this on my own in addition to that job. And as always, any viewpoints expressed are purely my own and in no way should be considered official statements from HP.

The Color Laserjet 2600N drivers will be available as soon as we can get them done. We are working on getting them done as quickly as possible. They most likely won't be available however the next time Apple Software Update updates HP print drivers.

As for the Officejet 7410, delete the print queue, and then add it back, and then you should have you Scan capabilities. And I'd suggest setting the queue to stay in the dock so you have easy access to the Scan functionality.

Just trying to help.

This is not a problem, the drivers for the Deskjet F2200 series are not yet available. The should be available through Apple Software Update at some point in the future. I have included the list below that I thought would be available today, but isn't. None of these devices have print drivers included yet. The irony is Scan drivers are included for some of them. You may want to try installing previous versions of the software (from the 10.5 installers), but as always this is an unsupported configuration and you will get no support from HP if you do so.

Just trying to help.

Go into "System Preferences" and click on "Print & Fax". Double click on your printer (or single click and then click the button "Open Print Queue..." At this point you click and hold on the print queue on your dock, when the menu comes up select "Options->Keep in dock"

You now have your print queue in the dock any time you want it. This is obviously handy for scanning.

Thanks for your post.

I have an HP 2101nw Wireless G USB Print Server. Thankfully (huge sigh) it looks like the connection manager software is not broken in 10.6. HOWEVER, while my printer (a psc 1210xi) appears on the Add Printer dialog (which suggests, if I'm not mistaken, that it recognizes that it is connected through the print server), I have the message others have mentioned indicating that Apple doesn't have drivers right now. I've run through the HP install again just to see if that fixed it and no cigar.

So, to clarify, when these 'additional' drivers come out, my print server should work from the Mac no problem, correct?

Okay

Installed 10.6 and my Ethernet connected HP C6180 prints just fine.

My big problem is that I cannot figure out how to make it scan anymore!

My normal route of the HP Device Manager will not see my printer on the network even though I can print to it quite happily.

Was working a treat BEFORE the upgrade.

My wife's MacBook Pro which has not yet been upgraded (not that silly) can scan from the printer fine.

Any ideas thoughts HELP?

Cheers.
