Snow Leopard with Exchange support not working

I tried out the new mail with exchange support (I use Microsoft Outlook at work). I tried to set up my account the same way with my iPhone, but it did not work . . . (I can get my work email to my iphone with the same account set up).

I know I'm not giving a lot of information here, but any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks!

Lindsay

I just posted this elsewhere:

For those of you that have iPhones that have been successfully using exchange for any period of time - don't expect mail.app to work for you!. Although there are improvements in exchange support, SL still does not support RPC over HTTP / (S). This is used quite widely by many companies still using Exchange server 2003, and provides seamless "no-vpn-required" access to the exchange server using an outlook web access server. I was, as most were, waiting for full exchange integration (Mail/iCal/Address etc). Nope. My question is this: if it was so simple to get this into the iPhone (and it works perfect).. why is this not in mail.app??? Full "out of the box" exchange support is not true at all.

Hi, I have the same problem - on local network with exchange server it works, but not from outside company. I have to connect through VPN first... 😟

I tried to search what does it mean External Server and External Server Path in Mail Account preferences, but did not find anything... Maybe this should be solution how to connect from outside of company LAN.

Very disappointing! Just installed Snow Leopard and first task was to set up my NHSmail exchange mail account, in the autodiscover window on completing my password and hitting return I get a few seconds of the wheel turning, then mail crashes! I've never seen anything like it on a Mac OS before! Thank goodness that Entourage Web services edition works to connect to my email, again using autodiscover, with no problem.
Still can't quite believe that the microsoft solution works better than the apple solution!
Is this going to get fixed?

Do you folks understand it's not s a simple "we have EXCH 2007 and it should work" thing?
There are configurations that can and are setup on the server and network side.
If your mail requires VPN it's because your company set it up that way.
Ours disabled the ability to use EWS without VPN after I reported it.
EWS still works, but only via internal addressing, hence the need for VPN or local access.
There are many variables, and if you have no idea how your company configures your EXCH servers, please don't grip that Mail doesn't work with Exchange.
It does, and does it well.

Look A A P L...don't post here without solutions or more data for the problem. The issue is that Apple said Exchange support but didn't clarify what was NOT supported. So, for those of us with iPhones where ActiveSync (Exchange) was working flawlessly with NO VPN, the SL upgrade should have taken. Your email is insulting and not helpful.

Let me clarify...I am a CCIE, CISSP, PHD. Just looking for some more assistance and don't want to spend hours working on this.

OK. If you're so enlightened, you should know that Active Sync is a separate and unique method on an EXCH server to get mail to mobile devices.
It's NOT how computers get email.
Nobody here can give solutions to your setup because WE and YOU don't know what your setup is.
If it was setup using the criteria that is needed, it would work.
Many testers have been using this for months.
So, what does that tell you?
I stated that there are configurations that need to be in place on the server-side.
If you don't know the current config, then you don't know if it should work on your Mac.
It's that simple.
And FWIW, it's PhD. Not that it has anything to do with THIS topic.
