Multiple Copies of Emails

I installed Snow Leopard yesterday. When I came down this morning I discovered that all of my rogers.com email boxes had 4 copies of each email in each in box. The me.com mailbox did not have this issue. I put them all off-line when it appeared that copy number 5 was starting to download. The box to delete files on the server had ben reinstated for one of the rogers accounts, which had not been set in Leopard. I have used this computer since late May using Leopard without this problem. Any suggestions? I haven't yet called Apple or Rogers.

I too have duplicate issues with the Mail App. I'm using exchange 2008 with Intermedia.net for mail, ical, and address book. the dupes happe some days more than others. my iphone syncs via exchange service to the same mailbox and no dupes there.

Come on Apple, I have 100 users at my office waiting for this to be fixed. for now we are still using entourage since the Mail app has not been proven to be reliable.

I'm not sure you all know this but Apple doesn't monitor this forum. This is a user only forum. In order to get Apple to respond to issues such as this, you'll need to contact Apple Care and open a trouble ticket. Only when enough people complain about this problem will Apple dedicate the resources necessary to fix the issue. Unfortunately, this forum is not the best avenue to get Apple's attention.

Great, here we go again.

Just noticed that once again my junk and deleted mail was being stored on my Mac as Mail couldn't store it on my MobileMe account for some reason. So I shut down Mail and opened it up again, and it's now in the process of downloading 18,417 duplicate messages.

I've mentioned it before, but for the record I only have Mail checking my MobileMe account, and this time I've not been using my MacBook, just my Pro (and iPhone)

Just to add to my previous post, this is an IMAP account so the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 trick isn't going to work here, and it also suggests that isn't the root of the problem.

With it being an IMAP account, I can't delete the duplicate message or it will delete the original as well. I had this problem for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and found a solution that instantly made the duplicates vanish from Mail and stopped it downloading duplicates (until now). Trouble is I thought I found it in this thread but can't find it anymore, I wanted to use it again to get rid of the duplicates and then just try running Mail in 32-bit mode until this gets fixed.

[EDIT:] Just found the solution I was hunting for (to delete IMAP duplicates, not prevent them happening) - in Mail Preferences, go to the Account/Advanced tab, disable the account and save (all messages will disappear), then enable it and save (original messages all come back)

I just called Apple support to complain about this problem. I'd been holding off until now, figuring I wouldn't bother them with a problem I knew they didn't have a solution for, but I decided it was worth adding some fuel to the fire by complaining. The support rep wanted to be helpful, but he was reading this very thread and suggesting some of the things I've already tried (like deleting the "UIDsAlreadyDownloaded" files from the library folder, etc.)

He then suggested that I delete and recreate the problematic Mail accounts, promising that my mail messages wouldn't be deleted by doing so. But when you go to delete a mail account, you get a very specific warning that you will lose all the mail messages from that account. So I'm not really willing to take that step as it seems like it would cause me to lose thousands of messages. Has anyone tried it with any success?

I was hoping they'd be able to assure me that Apple had engineers focused on fixing this problem, but I didn't really come away with much assurance. Support was definitely aware of the problem, and the gentleman I talked to said it was undoubtedly being looked at, but he wasn't able to give me any definitive information that a fix was on the way.

I should have been more clear when I said Apple doesn't monitor this forum. What I meant to say is they don't acknowledge these discussions as a communication mechanism to report problems.

In fact, they do technically have folks that monitor this forum per the "Discussion Terms of Use". But, they make it abundantly clear in the terms of use that they are under no obligation to provide a response.

As per the Discussion Terms of Use:
"Who are the Apple Discussions personnel?

Administrators—Administrators are Apple Employees who focus on maintaining, updating, and enhancing the discussion forums. Administrators will also attempt to maintain proper decorum in the discussion forums. Due to post volume and other factors, *Administrators may not respond promptly, or at all, to these discussions.*

Apple Hosts—Hosts are Apple Employees who focus on gathering technical feedback that will be forwarded to the appropriate Apple group. They also help identify possible content for Apple's Knowledge Base and, when possible, they correct erroneous information in the forums. Hosts will also attempt to maintain proper decorum in the discussion forums. *Due to post volume and other factors, Hosts may not respond promptly, or at all, to these discussions.*

Apple Employee—Employees of Apple who are not Discussion Hosts may have an Apple Employee text link that appears when they post. These Apple employees volunteer their time to assist with products for which they are familiar. *Since they are answering questions outside of their normal responsibilities, they may not always be available to respond to questions.*

Important: Employees of Apple Computer, Inc. ("Apple") may respond to issues within this forum. *Apple is under no duty to provide a response to an issue, or to do so in a timely manner.*"

I have also double messages that started with upgrading Mail. Worse, very old mails (4 years old) are also double but when I click on both of them they are EMPTY.

I run .me account (former .mac) and all my email is on the mac IMAP server, so that's not really a provider problem but more like an apple problem.

I love mail but I hate this, I have backups but have no idea how I can merge them with my newer data.
