Multiple Copies of Emails

I installed Snow Leopard yesterday. When I came down this morning I discovered that all of my rogers.com email boxes had 4 copies of each email in each in box. The me.com mailbox did not have this issue. I put them all off-line when it appeared that copy number 5 was starting to download. The box to delete files on the server had ben reinstated for one of the rogers accounts, which had not been set in Leopard. I have used this computer since late May using Leopard without this problem. Any suggestions? I haven't yet called Apple or Rogers.

I am experiencing a similar issue. Two copies of each message addressed to my company Exchange account. After I open and read one copy, the extra one disappears when I attempt to open it. I have not yet found a work around. I am reluctant to trash my mail prefs file because that action requires that I reenter all my account information for six accounts. Deleting the mail caches and rebuilding them did not remedy the problem.

What are the dates of creation and last modification on this misplaced Outbox.mbox? Probably should be dispensed with.

Created 21/2/07. (That was my birthday .. maybe it was one of those gifts I didn't know what to do with 😉 ) Modified this morning (which would have ben the time I was checking things over to answer your previous question).

Interestingly I have an item from a few days ago in the outbox in the main "Mailboxes" folder; but the outbox isn't showing up in the Mail interface at present. So I guess I might delete the extra one and see what happens.

I'm also having this problem. I have a number of yahoo accounts, a hotmail account and an account through my hosting provider. These accounts were all present in my installation in 10.5.x and worked fine. I access the accounts through the web - where available, through my MacBook and through my iPhone. This process worked impeccably under 10.5.x.
The upgrade to 10.6 has caused the whole process of duplicates being downloaded with no apparent pattern as to why it happens. Upgrading to 10.6.1 has not helped. I have each of the accounts set to never remove the message from the server - I need to be able to access the emails from other computers when on the road. I have several thousand emails in each of the accounts.
On one day when I left the MacBook on and unattended it downloaded 2.6GB of data - in other words each of my messages many times over. As a result I breached my monthly data limit and the speeds got chopped! Looking at my data usage and at the mail boxes it appears that this has been going on since I installed 10.6.
In desperation I deleted all accounts and then created the accounts again from scratch. I was in the process of letting Mail download all the mails from the accounts when lo and behold the duplicates started again. All my accounts are currently set to "Off Line" in Mail as I can't afford the data load that it's creating.
For clarity all are accessed by Mail using POP.
This problem appears widespread and not related to any particular ISP but instead to Mail in 10.6.
The sooner fixed the better Apple.

Douglas,

that is not a solution to this problem. There are those of us who require that email remains on the server for extended periods. Suggesting that the way to fix a bug in Mail is to reduce functionality to the point that the bug has nothing to work on and therefore doesn't occur is not a valid solution. Why should a system "upgrade" remove substantial functionality that operated perfectly well in the previous OS versions?

Apple need to promptly get to the bottom of this issue and provide a fix.

I for one am heartily sick of not having a functioning email system nearly 3 weeks after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Apple is no doubt aware that if there are two "must have" pieces of functionality for any user they are email and browser. Mail under SL is substantially impaired, not to say broken; The Safari browser has an issue with the Flash plugin that other browsers do not have. Adobe points at Apple and Apple at Adobe and meanwhile the users see the CPUs grinding away and the fans screaming.

Simply not good enough - and that from a big and long time Apple supporter.

Regards

Mike

Well in any case, it makes no difference. I've always had mine set to delete from server immediately (i.e. I haven't changed anything). Yet I've had this problem daily since SL.
