Multiple Copies of Emails

I installed Snow Leopard yesterday. When I came down this morning I discovered that all of my rogers.com email boxes had 4 copies of each email in each in box. The me.com mailbox did not have this issue. I put them all off-line when it appeared that copy number 5 was starting to download. The box to delete files on the server had ben reinstated for one of the rogers accounts, which had not been set in Leopard. I have used this computer since late May using Leopard without this problem. Any suggestions? I haven't yet called Apple or Rogers.

I am experiencing a similar issue. Two copies of each message addressed to my company Exchange account. After I open and read one copy, the extra one disappears when I attempt to open it. I have not yet found a work around. I am reluctant to trash my mail prefs file because that action requires that I reenter all my account information for six accounts. Deleting the mail caches and rebuilding them did not remedy the problem.

Let me add one more voice to the complaints, I've been having this same problem for several days, though I don't think it started until a few days after I installed Snow Leopard. I am getting repeatedly-downloaded email messages from multiple POP accounts (which are only accessed from one computer.) It seems to be going back to about August 23 and re-downloading messages. I delete all the dupes and come back later and they've been downloaded again. It's VERY annoying and time-consuming to keep having to deal with this.

Since I haven't changed any Mail settings (until I started trying to troubleshoot the problem) or any settings with the mail server hosts, and since the problem is occurring with multiple POP accounts from different vendors and on different servers, this HAS to be an Apple problem with Mail.

While I was relieved to learn that I'm not the only one suffering from this issue, it's driving me crazy and it needs to get fixed ASAP.

Today, with some sort of hormonal imbalance leading to a rush of positive thinking I decided that I could fix all this with some careful work.

I deleted all of the Yahoo email accounts from my iPhone and set them up afresh on the iPhone - not using the sync function - and made them all push accounts. (This based on a thought expressed in this thread that it could be interaction between two clients accessing an account.)

I cleaned up the accounts on my Mac and set the accounts back online one at a time. All was well and a large number of emails were downloaded - 1 copy only. So far so good.

I went off to dinner and came back to find 3-4 duplicates of every email.

Bluntly this is just crap and needs fixing. I don't know what came over me to think I could fix this with some care and attention.

And still a deafening silence from Apple. Where are you Apple and what are you doing? I'm far from the only angry person I know...Why don't you begin communicating with your loyal clients?

I have however stumbled across a fix for an iSync problem and got that working so small gains I suppose but no thanks to Apple.

Angry now!

I have this exact same issue since upgrading to snow leopard, and its really frustrating.

I tried the deleting of the "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3" due to the potential of it being corrupt but after a few hours I got the same issue again.

I updated to 10.6.1 hoping there was a fix but still was receiving duplicate emails.

I though potentially that the corruption of the file could be due to permissions so I fixed file permissions with disk utility but still have the same issue.

I have now forced the "Read & Write" share permissions on the "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3" file to allow all groups to read & write to the file. I'm not sure if this is a security risk or not but since doing so I have not had any duplicate emails.

Apple please pull your finger out and fix this issue 🙂

Like others here, I can't seem to kick this problem. That being said I have hope that the common elements described in this thread will help Apple track down the bug and squash it. No love in 10.6.1, but perhaps in a future update (hopefully soon).

Anyways, this post is geared towards giving a nod to Time MAchine and Time Capsule. I've been using it for a while but never had to restore anything until today. Somewhere along the line in my attempts to do away with the dupes issue, I dumped all my email from the POP Yahoo account, including Sent items. For whatever reason, they somehow didn't get caught in Trash. While I was nervous at first, I knew with TM I was covered. What I didn't know was how to go about it. I initially went more complicated than necessary and was browsing back through Finder folders from previous dates. After a quick search on the forums, I saw mention of bringing Mail up and then entering Time Machine. It couldn't have been easier to go back ito the day before the mass delete and restore them.

While this problem is still annoying, I have to give credit to TM for saving my behind.

I was having this same problem but and noticed it was happening to emails that fit certain rules I had setup. I disabled all the rules and the problem went away. I deleted all the rules and re-added them and I haven't had the problem since. I don't know if this is the same problem everyone else is having but I know this solved my duplicate email problem.
