Scanning multiple pages with preview and brother MFC-7440n

Hi,

because of some problems with my old scanner after i installed snow leopard, i bought a new compatible one. It's a brother MFC-7440n with apple build-in drivers.

When i start scanning to preview with more than one page, there will be a pdf document for every page. It doesn't matter if i choose "create just one document".

First i wondered because in leopard preview multiple pages are displayed like in snow leopard. But this is wrong. There is one pdf file for every page.

How can i change that issue? When i scan more than one page, i wan't one pdf document with multiple pages, not a pdf per page.

Thanks a lot.

Dominik

I also have an HP C3180 and struggled with scanning the last few days after upgrading to Snow Leopard. These pages and response from HP led me to the solution of using the Apple tools (Preview or Image Capture) instead of the HP applications that worked before SL upgrade. I also found the issue listed here of not being able to scan multiple pages and resolved it by scanning the multiple pages in Preview, selecting all pages in the side bar, and then printing to a PDF file which then combines the multiple scanned pages into one PDF file.

dbuckler's approach worked for me, too, but with one important modification. If I just printed the Preview doc, I still got a pdf file with only one page. I had to select all the pages in the sidebar (which I put there by dragging and dropping their separate icons into the sidebar, after I'd scanned each individual page), and then chose File>Print Selected Pages... to produce the multi-page pdf document I wanted.

Peter and Dominic - I have been having a similar problem with my Brother MFC 7240 and downloaded the new scanner drivers. While I am now able to use the scan button on the MFC to prompt my MacBook to receive the scanned documents, I am unable to change the resolution or choose between text, pictures, etc. The files are coming out huge and far too big to send via email. Any thoughts on this problem?

Thank you.

A second problem to consider with Preview 5 and scanning with Brother MFC - why is it that when importing directly from Preview (not using the scan button on the MFC) scanning text into a PDF, with the "create single document" checked, only the first page of the scan appears in the Preview window? Where are the rest of the pages - They show up in the scan window, but not in the Preview window that shows the PDF.
