Apple Remote Play/Pause button

Since installing Snow Leopard I've noticed that the Play/Pause button opens iTunes automatically, this is annoying, I don't use iTunes I prefer to use an app called Ecoute, it's less of a memory-hog, but tis app is pointless if I open itUnes very time I want to pause a song!! Does anybody know how to disable this feature?

P.s: I've found that the Play/Pause button on my keyboard (F8) does the same thing grr! this is annoying!

Same problem here using VLC player. Searched the internet and found various forum discussions about this issue. Hopefully apple will fix it.

There are two "solutions" (i.e. workarounds) to this until Apple fixes it:

1) Open QuickTime X and hide it.
OR
2) Create an empty playlist in iTunes or select Applications under library.

Whichever one you choose, the end result is the same: the remote does nothing in QuickTime X/iTunes (save for volume up/down) and still allows you to control VLC/EyeTV/Hulu/etc.

Thanks for the tip! It might not be the perfect solution, but at least I can continue using my Apple remote without starting a song from iTunes every time I press pause. 🙂

This needs to be fixed. Hulu Desktop renders useless since the Menu button launches Front Row, the up and down buttons change volume and the play/pause button launches iTunes.

Is the same with eye tv, try to hold on the menu button for 1 or 2 sec instead of just press it...with eye TV works!!

We really need a fix for this, right now Apple don't even seem to acknowledge there's a problem. Do they read these SUPPORT forums?

I'm having the same problem when using Eye TV. Not being able to use the remote is a real pain and this needs to be fixed ASAP.

thats so unbelievable stupid.
why cant you guys from apple just give the user the possibility to
activate/deactivate what he wants to control with the remote.
i cant use it for presentations without extra software but hey,
now there will be always music when i press buttons.
what a innovation...
