Apple Remote Play/Pause button

Since installing Snow Leopard I've noticed that the Play/Pause button opens iTunes automatically, this is annoying, I don't use iTunes I prefer to use an app called Ecoute, it's less of a memory-hog, but tis app is pointless if I open itUnes very time I want to pause a song!! Does anybody know how to disable this feature?

P.s: I've found that the Play/Pause button on my keyboard (F8) does the same thing grr! this is annoying!

I got rumors that apple is not considering this behaviour a bug, but rather a feature. Their original expectation is that third party apps are locked out from remote exclusive mode; snow leopard is now compliant with that idea.

If that is true i think millions of SL users are not complaiant with that expectation; if anyone from apple reads this thread: please change remote behaviour !! I want it back as it was in 10.5 ! I use my iMac as a multimedia centre and this is a HUGE step back.

bye

Ha! If that IS their view (and personally I think its a big if for the following reason) then it's pathetic. I use Logic 9 (i.e. an APPLE, NOT 3rd Party product) and when I try to use the remote I find iTunes starts playing.

Interestingly the Logic 9 manual actually states that you can use the remote to control record, playback etc. Which means that either they are putting incorrect information in their user manuals..or ITS A BUG!!!

An analogy to this is: In the UK we have a rule in football that says if a player 'Dives' in the penalty area he will get booked. If he didn't dive then he MUST have been tripped and its a penalty. It can only be one or the other it cannot be neither or both.

This issue seems to be affecting a lot of programme's Here is what i've found so far:

Boxee
Desktop
EyeTV
Hulu
Logic 9
Plex
VlC

I see Apple are advertising an app. called remote buddy that fixes this issue, but im very annoyed to see that is cost nearly £20 (although available with full feature 30 day trial.)

I hope this issue has not been manufactured for commercial purposes.

Please prove me wrong Apple and fix in the 10.6.2 update.

As far as how you contact Apple Just go onto their site, hit support and the'll be enough links to give you phone number, email addresses etc.

I've now formally raised this with Apple support as a bug, their first response was ah well we don't support 3rd party apps. I pointed out that I use Logic 9 and get itunes and front row startup now when I use logic with the remote - didn't before Snow Leopard. So they acknowledge it, and are 'looking into it' SO COME ON FOLKS BOMBARD APPLE SUPPORT WITH THIS PROBLEM!!

Ok.. I call apple (the italian contact number) but maybe I've been unlucky...the lady at the phone put me on hold for about 7 times.
It seems that she didn't know what she were talking about (?!?) and she told me to reset and to install SL again but I know that it doesn't work because I already installed SL twice!

I will send an e-mail, maybe it is better!

Unfortunately it was REALLY the Apple support! I was really disappointed about that but I realize that probably I spoke with somebody new in the call center.

Anyway, I tried!

Ps: the 10.6.2 is in beta version... hopefully the bug will be fixed...if it is a bug (What I wanted to know from the support was this...IS A BUG OR NOT? I asked...she answered "probably you installed a software that..." me:"ok, sorry, Goodbye")
