10.6 and Xerox Phaser 6100 Compatibility

It appears that a 10.6 capable print driver is unavailable for the Xerox Phaser 6100 (USB only). Can anyone suggest a workaround?

Hey there,
Rosetta installation worked immediately for me!
I have a 2008 MBP, the model right before the uniframe came out. My printer is the xerox phaser 6110.
Using the SL DVD and installing the optional Rosetta fixed my error problem instantaneously. My sincere gratitude for all of you who participate in this forum.

I posted about this on a Xerox 6110 MFP Phaser on 10.6... It might work if you've exhausted all other resources.
Repaste:

I posted about this in my blog ( http://macfixes.blogspot.com) - but long story short with the 6110 MFP (USB or Network)... this is how I resolved the issue.

1. Install the printer (if it isn't in there already) - it'll probably have the same queue name... thats fine - thats the problem. =)
2. Go Install the same printer again, this time creating a new queue (usually add's a "-1" to the end of the queue name) - I used the Autoselected Driver.
3. Delete the first (original) queue.
4. Test Print.
5. Joy.

I found that even after resetting CUPS (Printing System), new driver, Generic Driver (tried HP LaserJet 4 - its almost universal) and even went the route of installing the universal binaries listed on other blogs (referenced in mine) - nothing worked until I forced it to create a new queue and everything worked just fine - even using the driver that the OS "Automatically Found" (or the one from the original OS)...

From that point - share the working printer to the rest of your printers, if necessary.

If that doesn't work, check out the links (I gathered most of them from the Apple Discussions) on my blog) and see if their drivers/suggestions help.
If none of that works, email me.

Xerox worked extensively and couldn't figure anything else out - they simply told me they would have a driver out late Fall. Fail on someone's part.

Hope this helps.

Jason

The easiest solution I have found to get this printer to work with SL is to go to the Samsung site and download the driver for the CLP-510 (search for that model on this page http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do ). Since the printer is made by them anyway and the driver works well. Hopefully Xerox will correct this problem soon, but I think they are no longer working on anything for this printer.

I found a solution! It is NOT the driver causing the problem. It is all related to the IP address of your network printer.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I lost connectivity to our network printer Xerox Phaser 7700. I tried everything to no avail. Talked to Xerox, talked to Apple. Nothing.

Here's the solution: change the IP adddress of your network printer

Our old address: XXX.XXX.123.164 (the x's represent first six numbers you don't have to change.)
Our new IP address: XXX.XXX.1.120

We think that because Snow Leopard does away with Apple Talk it just could not see the printer until we made it "accessible." So if you can change your printer IP address it should solve the problem. It may also require a change in your submask number, but maybe not.

We are printing! Good luck

This fixed it for my Phaser 6100.

The instructions provided on the Xerox web site are for the 6110 NOT the 6100. They are different printers with very different drivers. The command provided by kdraz will is correct and will fix printing on 10.6.

sudo chown root:admin /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertophaser6100

DO NOT use this command if you have a 6110, it won't work.
