Canon MX850 Driver for 10.6 - Released on Canon website

Hi,

Heads up. Looks like Canon published the updated MX850 CUPS Printer Driver.

I have not installed Snow Leopard yet, but I installed the driver on my MacBook & IMac.

On the MacBook, after the driver installation, I attempted to print from Bean, there was not printer selected, choose Add Printer, it searched and found the MX850, added it and printed the page. Restarted and printed from Word 2008.

On the iMac, After installing the driver, I opened Print & FAX to add the printer. It instantly found the MX850 and Bean & Word printed also.

So, it seems to work fine.

I will upgrade to Snow Leopard in a day or two and hopefully this will continue working.

Doesn't work for me! Delete all drivers. Tried the one from SL Install DVD and from Canons website. When I want to add a printer my mx850 doesn't appear and the canonijnetwork tool crashes.

canonijnetwork(39132,0x102181000) malloc: * error for object 0x73797376: pointer being freed was not allocated
* set a breakpoint in malloc errorbreak to debug
Abort trap

I just updated my mother MBP to SL (clean install). Before updating to 10.6.1 I installed the Canon driver from DVD and then the drivers and Network tool from Canons website. Printer works without any problme! Maybe it's a problem with 10.6.1?

Unfortunately as I have just found out uninstalling Parallels usually seems to fix the problem and allow the printer to be selected and used, I reinstalled the latest version of Parallels (4.0.3846.436204) and a day later my MX850 printer stopped working and the canonijnetwork was crashing.

So canonijnetwork is needed to both install and print and Parallels seems to cause it to crash (at least sometimes). This is not universal either as the cause of the crash and reinstalling Parallels does not always seem to cause it to crash again (on other peoples systems.

Interested to know how many who had problems with Parallels during installation have been able to reinstall and use it without having subsequent printing problems.

I had the exact same problem and console log, regarding my Canon MX850. The first time after installing the latest printerdrivers (either from Canon or from Software Update) printing went fine, but afterwards printing over the network ceased to function.

Uninstalling Parallels Desktop 4 immediately solved the problem for me: I even didn't have to restart my MBP! Just pausing and resuming the printer and... presto!

I've got the same problem with Parallels 4.0 and latest Canon drivers. Already posted to Parallels & Canon. Canon states "parallels is not supported" and Parallels is investigating and giving hints, so far useless.

I just got the idea of killing the processes prl dispservice & prl_naptd before printing with the "activity monitor" but this didn't help. I just can't print via lan to my MX850. Deinstalling Parallels cures the problem and installing the printer worked fine but after reinstallation of Parallels the same problem is back.

As Fusion also seems to cause the problem we have two VMs here but no solution. Hope to see one in the near future as walking to our utility room with my MBP and a usb cable just *****.

Dear Skynet,

When you say you posted it to Canon and Parallels do you mean on a forum to their technical support.

Did you reply to Canon where they say "they don't support Parallels" that you are referring to an interaction with Parallels rather than asking them to allow Parallels to print to the network printer?

I have posted a topic on the Parallels forum regarding this to see what they say.

Hi Roger,

I tried to post it to Canons technical problem form on their website. Unfortunately I got a "server error" while trying to send twice. Then I posted it to their general contact address telling them the problem with their form and my problem and asked them to forward my problem to tech support. I got the answer from Canons tech support. When I tried to answer I got the info that this e-mail address could not be sent messages to. This really *****.

I get fast responses from Parallels on my bug report but so far with no positive result. Sometimes the hints tend to lead in the completely wrong direction (how to install printer within Parallels VM, etc.).

Still looking for a solution...
