Canon MX850 Driver for 10.6 - Released on Canon website

Hi,

Heads up. Looks like Canon published the updated MX850 CUPS Printer Driver.

I have not installed Snow Leopard yet, but I installed the driver on my MacBook & IMac.

On the MacBook, after the driver installation, I attempted to print from Bean, there was not printer selected, choose Add Printer, it searched and found the MX850, added it and printed the page. Restarted and printed from Word 2008.

On the iMac, After installing the driver, I opened Print & FAX to add the printer. It instantly found the MX850 and Bean & Word printed also.

So, it seems to work fine.

I will upgrade to Snow Leopard in a day or two and hopefully this will continue working.

I am having the same problem as everyone here. The following trick helps temporarily:

- Open Terminal
- enter "sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon" without the quotes
- enter your password
- Print (or restart the print queue)

If you want to use Parallels afterwards, either restart the computer or type

"sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon"

in Terminal

Works for me for now, still waiting for 10.6.2

Hi everybody,

I've been through the exact same problem.

By the way I've finally solved it. On my MB, I'm also using Fusion 3 with two virtual machines. I didn't uninstall Fusion.

My printer MX850 didn't show neither in the Canon IJ Network Tool nor in the Add Printer menu is System Preferences.

Here's how I got my MX850 to install:
- I opened System preferences > Printers
- In the printers list, I right clicked and selected 'Reinit system' which deleted every installed printer
- I clicked on the + to add my MX850
- I waited 8 seconds and the MX850 Bonjour scanner showed, then appeared the MX850 printer ijnetwork
- I selected the MX850 printer ijnetwork and it installed automatically 😉

(Note that I had already updated the CUPS printer drivers because I'm under 10.6)

Let me know of how it goes for you, I'll tell you if my solution keeps working across time

Hi,

i was facing the same problems with Parallels 4 and the mx850 Printer.
Now i´m using the Trial of Parallels 5 and after resetting the Printersystem and clicken on + my Mac first found the bonjour scanner and FINALLY the printer.
i´m using the latest CUPS drivers. Which i didn´t reinstall before trying to add the printer.

Finally I can print!!!!

Hope this will work for you all too!

Hi,

It is my understanding that those choices, such as Duplex are not sticky and have to be selected each time.

However, you can save Presets. Set up the Duplex, or any other setting, such as Quality & Media, then save it as a Preset. Then you can select that preset.

I have several Presets set up for trifold color and B&w printing.

Hi,

Yesterday I received my Parallels 5.0 upgrade and after installation my problems were gone. My MX850 just prints via network as expected.

Thus Parallels 4.0 is causing problems when used with MacOS 10.6.x.

Fortunately I was within the extended grace period and had to pay "only" $10 for the upgrade. I would have expected Parallels to solve the problem for v4.x

Thank you! The terminal command to stop Parallels launch daemon worked for me under 10.6.2 with a Canon MP980. Once I stopped that process, the printer appeared in the Add Printer dialog a few seconds later (and this after 30 minutes on with tech support and multiple re-installations). Hopefully they can add this to their database soon as it appears many of us have called in with this same issue.

I am new to this Forum!!! I hope this is the best thread for this question. I have just gotten a laptop with OSX 10.5.6 and have been trying to get my MX850 to print and have been unsuccessful. The Canon website lists both the latest CUPS driver and the V7.1.1 drivera as both being useful for 10.5. Which one should I use?

I first tried installing the CUPS driver using the downloads from the Canon website. That didn't work so I tried installing the V7.1.1 driver and that didn't work. What should I use? Do I have to remove or undo my "double" driver installation? I am new to the world of Macs so please be gentle with me!!! Any help is greatly appreciated!.....I see from browsing these forums that you're a help community.

Hi Crispell,

Just use the included CD for installation. For MacOS 10.5.x they work just fine. Afterwards you may update the drivers if you need to. You need the canon network scan tool to find the printer via network. Only the drivers won't work as Canon MX850 does not support "normal" network connections but a special solution from Canon which only works for Win & Mac.
