Canon MX850 Driver for 10.6 - Released on Canon website

Hi,

Heads up. Looks like Canon published the updated MX850 CUPS Printer Driver.

I have not installed Snow Leopard yet, but I installed the driver on my MacBook & IMac.

On the MacBook, after the driver installation, I attempted to print from Bean, there was not printer selected, choose Add Printer, it searched and found the MX850, added it and printed the page. Restarted and printed from Word 2008.

On the iMac, After installing the driver, I opened Print & FAX to add the printer. It instantly found the MX850 and Bean & Word printed also.

So, it seems to work fine.

I will upgrade to Snow Leopard in a day or two and hopefully this will continue working.

Defaults can be set up through the CUPS interface: http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/
Click on your printer, and then choose Set Defaults. Change Automatic Duplex Printing to On, and Duplex to Duplex - Long Edge.

after 3 hours, i figured it out! I finally remembered when I first installed the printer, that the printer required that the Mac (or PC) be hooked up with USB first. I deleted the printers from the list, then added the Canon via a USB connection. Once that was all recognized and properly working, I disconnected the USB and added the printer through the network. It seems to be working fine, with all the correct quality pref. etc.

For those who had the issue of the duplex, color, etc. options being unavailable post Snow Leopard upgrade (on my Mac they were literally lined out in the print dialogue), downloading the latest driver and installing via the CUPS process as noted above solved the problem for me ...
