Wireless keyboard caps lock light not working

Just a bump to say this is still a problem with the newest hardware (Apple Wireless keyboard firmware 68) and software (10.6.2 with all patches and bluetooth updates).

Requiring the user to do anything with the CAPS LOCK button for it to work and indicate other than press it is an unacceptable, Apple. Very embarrassing. You'd think a status light was something that could be made to be reliable in this day and age.

Another update to say that in addition to CapSee, which doesn't currently change it's menu icon to notate CAPS LOCK on/off status, there is a little app called CAPS Warn which has quite a bit of functionality (including a little "light" for the menu bar which is visible at-a-glance):

It's $6 and doesn't have the prettiest icons but I've sent some pngs and icnses over to John in the hopes they can be included in a future version.

- go to /Users/yourusername/Library/PreferencePanes/Caps Warn.prefPane
- right-click on it and choose "Show Package Contents"

(3) CWClosed.tif
(4) CWOpen.tif

then:
- right click on Caps Warn Helper.app and choose "Show Package Contents"
- go to Contents/Resources/ and replace:
(1) Caps Warn Icon.icns
(2) CWClosed.tif
(3) CWOpen.tif

Thank Aaron for the links, I'll check them out.
It might be easer to use if you are a touch typist then you can keep your eyes on the screen.
We still would like it fix though Apple.

Another update: Just downloaded and installed Apple Wireless keyboard firmware 80 for the 2009 Apple Wireless keyboard and the problem remains.

The CAPS-LOCK-LIGHT on my replacement i7 iMac still doesn't function correctly all the time. Every now and then I have to remove the batteries, replace them to get the light to work right.

Just had this problem, was asleep all day pretty much and came home to the light not working. But the actual key pad functionality worked. I read through this thread and shifted the batteries (restarted the keyboard) and the light now works great....Sounds like a firmware problem

I got a brand new Imac in November 09.

I had the intermittent keyboard issue (I went through 3 keyboards) but also had a 'sleep' issue where the computer would sometimes not wake up when the keyboard was pressed/mouse was clicked.

In the end the place where i bought it swapped it over for a brand new iMac.

So far, no sleep issues but STILL have the keyboard issue, which although is minor is very frustrating.

What's more, my new iMac didn't have the keyboard problem until Apple relesed a software update at the beginning of Feb 2010 for the keyboard!!!

Definitely still a problem: my dad has bought and exchanged THREE Apple wireless keyboards. With every single one, the CAPS lock light would stop working after about 2 or 3 days. Apparently a sales clerk at the Apple Store he visited to return the 2nd keyboard mentioned something about being "a bad batch".

I had same problem. I called Apple and they told me to try changing batteries first. But the problem creeps back in. When the light does not work, the CAPS LOCK BUTTON ALSO DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY if you know what I mean. I am glad I am not alone. Attempting to get a replacement.

The fact that this thread exists - and the issue isn't fixed kind of let's us all know where we iMac users rate in the scheme of Apple's hierarchy of customer value.

The funny thing is, when I called Mac Support the lady at Mac acted like she'd never heard of it before. She told me I could get a new keyboard shipped out, or get a replacement at a Mac Store...

THAT'S NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM, IS IT?

I'm seriously ****** about spending $2000 for this iMac and having it do this - and it's also unwakable in sleep mode at times...

I'm getting sick of taking the batteries out and reinserting them every other day.

Mine did this for the first time the other day (opened at Christmas) and now has done it again. Turned off the first time and swapped batteries this time. What's weird is that it took so long to appear.

I have not had this problem for quite a while now after experiencing it frequently. I let the computer go to sleep automatically rather than manually initiating a screen blanker or display sleep as I used to do when I had problems. I also do a SMC reset about every two weeks and reboot the computer every few days rather than let it run for long periods without a reboot. Not sure what's helping the most, but by doing those things I haven't had a reoccurrence of the CAPSLOCK light failing to light up.

The solution is simple. There is a delay with the LED light for the caps lock button. Hold the button down for a few seconds and the light will come on. I have not had a problem since I discovered this and as a PC user, I have had my fair share of problems to solve! Good luck folks. If my solution fails I'll let you know. The keyboard I am using is the new iMac wireless.

Welcome to the Apple world.

This is not a problem with the delay built into the keyboard. You can press the caps lock button and then type in caps, all the while the light stays off. When you press the capslock button again, the light remains off but you will now be typing in lowercase. Press it again, the light still stays off, but you will now be typing in upper case etc etc etc..

The keyboard registers that you have enabled caps, the light just doesn't work as it should.

This is not a feature, it is a blatant bug.

I am having this issue as well. I bought my mac on February 14th and received it later that week. I am up to date on everything as far as firmware, software, everything, and this happens to me all the time. Literally, all the time. Not only when it sleeps, but in the middle of everything. I will be typing a message on world of Warcraft and this happens. Or just on Facebook. What should I do? Call Apple and have them send me a new one?
