Sony Ericsson W705 Bluetooth sync - 'Start remote control?'

Hi all,

I have my W705 paired with MacBook and am using iSync successfully. One thing is really annoying me though, and that is every time I sync, a message appears on the phone saying "xxx's MacBook Start remote control?". To which I can answer yes or no, and the iSync works OK.

I'm sure I never used to have to answer this question on the phone - in fact I didn't have to touch the phone; iSync just synced. Not sure when it started happening, but definitely pre-SL.

I have deleted the device and re-paired it, reset the device in iSync; re-installed the Sony Ericsson plug-in; it still keeps asking me!

Anyone know how I can stop this message appearing?

Thanks
Andy

Yep,
I just ran into that thread and can confirm the conclusion. The "Remote Control" issue occurred with Leopard and a Nokia as well as with a Snow Leopard and a Sony Ericsson. I also went thru all configs but could not find any matching option to uncheck. Hence, I guess (and hope) this is a bug and hopefully get fixed soon. I would appreciate if anyone has any workaround for this ...(?)
Thx for any further info!

There is a configuration option for this, but under 10.5.8 it doesn't work. With bluetooth switched on, on both the mac and the phone go to Bluetooth Preferences. Select the mobile phone on the left-hand pane, click the little cog wheel icon at the bottom and select "Configure this device...". After a few seconds, you will get a dialog box with an option "Use device as input device for this computer". Uncheck this, and you would expect that you wouldn't get the remote control question again. But you do 😟

Yep,
I just had occasion to test. Unfortunately I could not follow your advice.
The cog wheel icon brings the option to send or receive files and "Edit serial Ports" and "Show more Info".
However, I have an "Advanced ..." click button in the Dialog Box. This brings up some clickable options like "Allow BT devices to wake this computer". I browsed all options but could not find the "Use device as input device for this computer".

I am not sure whether this differences are because I am running SL 10.6.1.

Any more ideas appreciated ...

I have a solution - or workaround, depending on how you wish to use your Sony Ericsson.

I started getting this "START REMOTE CONTROL" prompt on my Sony Ericsson K810i, when I recently switched to a Mac Book Pro on OS X 10.6. I use the Feisar plug in for this phone, as it is an unsupported model. It worked fine on a MacBook on Tiger.

I managed to get rid of the problem by switching 'Bluetooth Visibility' on my phone to OFF. The phone no longer prompts me for 'START REMOTE CONTROL'. Magic.

I hope this might work for some of you guys - it's irritating, isn't it?!
