HP PhotoSmart C4480 In Snow Leopard

My HP all in one PhotoSmart C4480 prints perfectly fine in Snow Leopard but when I try to scan from the printer it says "Scan Error. Try from computer or see documentation". Then when I try to scan from the computer the app fails to open. I've reinstalled the drivers from the HP website and from the included CD in the printer box but it still does the same thing. My scanner worked perfectly fine in Leopard but not in Snow Leopard. I can usually fix this stuff but I think the drivers are not compatible with Snow Leopard. Also when I try to scan from the system preferences menu it ends up saying no scanner selected. Please tell me if you are having the same problem with your HP all in one and if you found a solution. Thanks.

I had the same problem! But I just resolved it! 🙂

There is a new pack of drivers for this printer from HP.com, and it writes it is for 10.6. I installed it, and everything is all back online as my iMac finally found the scanner. However, the scan software just crashed when it started to scan.

I rebooted the system, and now it works perfectly. The new interface is also better than the previous version. Thank God, everything is working fine now and I can go back to work.

Everyone try that 🙂

HeloPait,

There never were any compatibility problems with the C4480. Some people had some issues where the upgrade process left things in a weird state, or they were trying to use HP Scan Pro or HP Device Manager, which don't work under Snow Leopard, but the device has had Scanning, Printing, and a Utility from Day 1, and there has been a full solution posted for a while now too. So for the Photosmart C4480 at least, I would say you're pretty safe.

And if you do run into any problems, there are plenty of posts here, especially in my FAQ thread, on how to re-install things and get them running. Not to mention, I am actively participating in these forums trying to make sure everyone is working.

Just trying to help.

Andrew
