Duplicates entries in "open with" menu AGAIN....

Hey guys

I have an issue with the Open With Crtl + click menu, i get duplicates of the programs that can be used to open the file, i konw that this problem was there since tiger and leopard, but now with SL i'm dissapointed of this issue AGAIN. I hope Apple its aware of this forum and resolves this problem with an update soon

If anyone knows a practical solution, please post it

HI,

Try deleting this file.

com.apple.finder.plist

/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

Hi: Open System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing Tab. Is "VoiceOver" activated? If so turn off and the duplicates shouild go away.

run the following terminal command


/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

it will rebuild your launch services database and the duplicates should go away.

VoiceOver does not seem to do the duplicate menu thing under Snow Leopard.

It is very different, and kind of cool.

Hi Kenichi Watanabe: Yeah, I had noticed that the duplication issue had disappeared under the normal menu items. But, strangely enough it shows up when "Right Clicking" on a desktop file and selecting "Open With". And yes, very cool indeed.

I just turned on VoiceOver again to check.

I do not see any duplicate +Open with+ on the contextual menu. I do not see duplicated menus anywhere.

Hi again: OK, I am not really losing my mind, honest. Right clicking on a PDF file on the desktop and selecting "Open With" gave me not Duplicates, but Quadruplicates of each choice. I then selected the same PDF file and clicked "File" from the menu bar and then "Open With" and all was good, only one of each choice. I then go back to the "Right Click" method, all back to normal, one of each. Strange indeed.

If you can "duplicate" it, report it as a bug to Apple using the Product Feedback page, and tell them how.

I can't get it to happen at all on my system. I even tried it with "a PDF file on the desktop." 🙂

do you have other drives connected to your computer? a drive with a clone of your system, perhaps?

No, i dont have drives connected to the computer or any clone drive I backup my mac with a external drive but i dont keep the drive connected all the time
