Duplicates entries in "open with" menu AGAIN....

I've got the same problem. When I right click a file and go to "open with" I get the application list in quadruple. I have tried the two solutions in this thread (deleting com.apple.finder.plist and running the terminal command) with no success. Anyone find a solution to this yet?

I'm having the same issue. For example, when I right click a photo or movie, it lists Picasa twice under Open With. I never had this issue with Leopard 10.5. Not all apps are duplicated; just a few certain ones.

I'm running 10.6.1 in 64-bit mode. No external drives attached, though my drive is partitioned for Bootcamp.

I have the same problem as visik illustrates with his screenshots.
I did a 10.5 -> 10.6 upgrade and selected to import all my old files and programs during the installation. I am thinking of installing 10.6 from scratch instead -- without importing any file automatically this time.

OK. If you have VMWare Fusion installed try this:
Shutdown every v-machines you have (shutdown, not suspend)
Uncheck "Open your Mac files and web links using Windows applications" checkbox in every v-machine settings (Settings (⌘-E) - Applications - Default Applications)
Close Fusion and delete Applications folder within every Virtual Machine's bundle.
Duplicates should gone. Maybe Virtual Machines restart required (my case - worked w/o it).

If you need to open files with Windows applications - check them again but try to use it smartly 😉

Once you choose the file, are you then using your arrow keys to navigate the menu? This is a known issue and a BR has been filed on it. If not, then I dunno...

EDIT: These are the steps needed to create it:
1. Choose any file and command-click (right-click) for context menu.
2. Down arrow to "Open with"
3. Right arrow for menu.

I was getting duplicate entries for VMWare apps after every update of VMWare. This process fixed that problem for me by resetting everything. Thanks for the top NilColor!
