After Snow Leopard upgrade, bluetooth mouse connects but keyboard will not

All of a sudden, my bluetooth keyboard lost connection to my 2gHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. The mighty mouse hasn't had any issues, but the keyboard won't connect. The bluetooth finds the keyboard, but will not pair. Any ideas?

I have already reset the SMC.

Just to confirm that Barry Hemphill's solution to trash (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) followed by a restart really works in this case:

Description of the case (for reference)
------------------------------
Out-of-the box iMac 10,1 worked OK after initial start-up and configuration but lost pairing ability with wireless keyboard after installation of "applications install DVD". Also no external BT devices recognised.

Recognise the symptoms? try Barry's "trick of the trade". Thanks Barry!

had same problem - Bluetooth Gone. I had unending pinwheel and had to force shut-down the laptop. After restart the Bluetooth was gone as was the ICON for Bluetooth on the System Preference and Utilities screens.

I have read all of the solutions listed included resetting PROM (holding option + command + P + R down when you turn the unit on) BUT I just got off the phone with Apple and the following fixed this for me:
1) Shut down laptop and bluetooth device (keyboard for me).
2) Disconnect power and Remove battery (aluminum version you lift the tab on underside and remove panel - then (with tab still up) pull the battery out with plastic pull - make sure the tab on bottom has not gone closed as it locks the battery in place even with cover off)
3) With no power and no battery - turn unit over and press the start button for at least 5 seconds)
4) Replace battery and plug laptop power back in.
5) Start laptop and bluetooth device.
At this point my icon was back and the device pared immediately with the MacBook.
This procedure is called an SCM Reset and is good when you have hardware related failures like a missing (or false "hardware not found") issues like this missing Bluetooth Module issue.

I've tried resetting the SMC but my Apple wireless keyboard still won't pair with my MacBook, and hasn't since I installed Snow Leopard.

I've also discovered that there's no com.apple.bluetooth.plist file in my Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences folder, or anywhere else on my hard drive, for that matter! Could that be the problem, and if so, how do I rectify it?

My MacBook pairs just fine with my Kensington bluetooth mouse, however.

I tried trashing the plist file and did the PRAM reset as well, but none of that worked. I could discover the keyboard, but not pair with it. My wireless mighty mouse worked just fine. It was driving me nuts.

I finally solved my problem when I went around to the other two Mac computers in our house and found that my keyboard and mouse had somehow mysteriously paired with another computer. It was strange that my mouse had paired with another computer, but it was still working with mine. Even stranger that my keyboard had paired with another computer.

I do not discount the possibility that someone is being mischevious, but it was my understanding that the keyboard had a knowledge of the machine it was paired with and would not pair with any other machine. This was clearly not the case as I could see the same keyboard (there is only one BT wireless keyboard in the house) paired to two machines.

I had same issue - works in leopard, stays though upgrade but cannot be paired from snow leopard if not present already. I personally used an iogear mouse. What I did is this:

Go to Utilities and click on Bluetooth File Exchange - select any file, then in the next step (make sure your mouse is discoverable) select your mouse. Mine started working!

"Same Problem" I am writing this post on my MacBook Pro and using my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse. The OS is 10.6.1 with all the application patches. After I upgraded from 10.5 I had problems with my Mighty Mouse not connecting or dropping connection as everyone posts. I was going to upgrade to an Airport Extreme so I ordered a new Bluetooth "board" and installed it at the same time. I replaced the board because I am getting the infamous "Bluetooth not Available" message and bluetooth was not showing on my System Preferences panel. This hardware "fix" did not work of course, since I firmly believe this is a 10.6.1 "bug" that Apple is ignoring!

Another "weird" thing is that the mouse will connect, drop out (With the Connection lost mouse "ghost image". i will also intermittently loose Bluetooth from my system preferences!

Well, now I am having pair problems with Apple key board.
Have replaced the batteries and still had no effect.
Have done everything by the book but with no luck.
Had been working just fine until this morning.
Trying to pair it with a Macbook Pro 2.66. (late June 2009).
The mighty mouse connects with no problem.

Now I must admit I have had nothing but on going problems since installing Snow Leopard.
Never had any issues until Snow Leopard. Go figure.

Same basic issue here, maybe more clues will help. Bought new computer about 5 months ago. 24" iMac 2.66. Came with 10.6.1. Software update to 10.6.2. Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 2.2.4f3

Older full wireless kybd A1016 wierless MMouse A1197. Has worked fine for months. About 10 days ago, the computer crashed. Haven't seen a Mac crash in a few years. Freeze, yes--crash, no. The window shade came down and five languages told me to restart the computer by holding down the power button.

On restart, computer wanted to send Apple a crash log. Took a look at the dump info and apparent site of crash was in the Bluetooth software. Gave assent to send report to Apple.

Now every 10th or 15th time coming out of sleep, mouse is dead. Sleep/wake does nothing. Half the time, reconnecting using Bluetooth Setup Assistant will reconnect/repair with the mouse. Other half of the time, I have to restart and the Mouse and Kybd work fine. Never any problem with the kybd. New batteries and renaming seem to do nothing.

Any solutions other than reloading OS? Then I'll have to roll forward with Software Update which will take days on my 1 megabit connection. Any way to reinstall just the Bluetooth subsystem?

Hi
I have had the same problem and it is very frustrating you go to very different forums and try ever thing as they say things like reset PRAM, SMC, flush system preferences and so on. Long history sort yesterday I think I found the final solution for my problem and it was.
1. Go to router preferences and see what IP it gave for the machine you try to connect if it 168... will not work. Try give it a number like 192.168.1.57 or some thing like that
2. Go to system preferences and check it number you have available.
3. Go to advanced DNS tipe a google DNS server number it is 8.8.8.8 then add 8.8.4.4 as well and then restart the machine.
I dont know what really happen after I have done it, but my connection has been solid since. It looks like this google DNS server made my machine finally recognise where Im and reset my settings with a local IP address.
Good look.
Ps I got also a macbook pro each I have the same problem but this is under the warranty so I left it for the mac genius to repair it so if they got different solution for it I will post soon as get it.
